Today we’d like to introduce you to Takaitheartist.
Takaitheartist, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a Director and was born & raised in Oakland, California. Growing up in Oakland, California provided me with a unique perspective, social conscious, and a supportive community that has allowed me to thrive as an artist I am today. When I was young, I remember watching the news and wondering how I was seeing the news reporter, reporting on a screen, what was creating this image? This curiosity started my journey as a photographer at the age 13. Of course, this was just my introduction into pursuing something much larger than I had imagined. My early love for photography developed into an obsession to create more than just a still image.
This discovery of creating moving images, and the powers they hold, has now turned into a lifelong passion in film and storytelling, along with other digital arts. I have been dedicated to Directing and filmmaking for over seven years and throughout those years have experienced numerous kinds of projects. I draw on influences from artists of many mediums. I strive to have the voice of Banksy, the reach of Bob Marley while having impact of Walt Disney. Now, I am a recent graduate of the nation’s number one public university, UCLA, with a BA in Film, concentration in Directing. Storytelling is a powerful tool that will change the world. I look forward to using storytelling as a force to inspire human discovery within each other in order to extinguish hate and ignite love.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wouldn’t necessarily say it has been a smooth or rough road. I don’t see it as white & black. There are always, and always will be high highs and low lows. I think thats what makes a journey a journey, it’s not smooth or rough, good or bad, it’s just a journey and what you make out of it.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I recently had a screening for my latest short film called Canary in a Mine. The screening was beautiful, a lot of people showed out and loved it. Canary in a Mine short film can be found in the link below, password: ciam2019. Although I am a Director, Directing is a natural step in my journey. I am currently working to start a business that hones the power of storytelling to build human connection and create change. I am going to use my various skills and ever-growing knowledge to start a business that hones the power of storytelling to create change. I look forward to dedicating my life to this idea I have and am always accepting for help, advice, and knowledge to grow.
