Today we’d like to introduce you to Jodi Mendelsohn.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jodi. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My story…I am an interior designer, self-taught and I come from a family of creative people. My mother was a very talented Interior Designer in Los Angles and back East. I can’t remember a time when color’s and spaces didn’t matter, even in my dorm in college my mother helped make it look like a suite in a hotel rather than a dorm room!
Fast forward to 2018… Although I’ve been blessed with a steady Interior Design business I felt like the entrepreneur in me was missing. I’ve always loved new adventures and spreading my wings in different places. I started receiving a subscription box that personally styles clothes for the subscriber, which is delivered right to your doorstep! That’s when the light bulb went off in my head, I thought, if a subscription box for clothing can be a success how about a subscription box for home accessories!
So I started researching subscription boxes and eventually Home Inspired was born! I had an idea, I had an investor and my family’s support. But, as most of us know an idea is just the beginning. It takes lots of research, perseverance and focus on details to move forward. It took me over a year to work out all of the details…logo, packaging, price points, accessory pieces, mailing list, website, colors, image and overall presentation of what I wanted to create.
I am proud to announce that Home Inspired launched its first box on November 5th, 2019! We have had an amazing response and the December Box is a true labor of love. All of my favorite pieces that I personally curated from wonderfully creative artisans.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Having a full-time design business, kids, dog and life got in the way at times and after navigating the latest crisis I was able to redirect and focus on Home Inspired. Living a busy life, like everyone can always get in the way but regrouping and keeping your eye on the goal is important.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Home Inspired – what should we know?
Home Inspired is a home decor accessory box that is delivered directly to the customer. We have created a neutral palette that compliments any style home. Home Inspired subscription decor box is filled with chic and classic pieces that represent and support small artisan.
With each Home Inspired decor box, we will continue to create and curate accessories that are from smaller artisans that represent small business owners.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Passion for my industry, entrepreneurship, motivation and belief in myself.
When I was 16 years old I was the youngest vendor, business owner at Faneuil Hall Marketplace in Boston, Massachusetts. I’ve always been a very inquisitive person and have had a passion for creating.
My family and friends are the most supportive and have kept me going when I doubted myself and when I questioned Home Inspired and the overall concept!
