Today we’d like to introduce you to Tosca Rivola.
Tosca, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
This show started when I quit my job with a larger corporate entertainment firm here in Los Angeles. After a long-winded grapple over a show that I co-created with this business and not finding the creative freedom or mutual respect, I went into the project with, I decided to forge ahead on my own and started both an entertainment company and show to match. I’ve always admired the outlaw woman and looked to none other than Tarantino’s fictional heroines to inspire me to create this cabaret-style show, simply called TARANTINA. Luckily I know the real-life women that are able to authentically bring these femme fatales to life! Casting couldn’t have been easier and now I’m excited to announce we are on our 6th sold-out show and have no intention of stopping!
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a relatively smooth ride I must say. The performers and crew have been nothing but wonderful to work with, and it’s a true pleasure creating these detailed acts with each person or group. The venue I initially selected for the show was definitely a misstep, but it taught be a lot about what I wanted and needed in a venue. For the last couple of shows we’ve been at Club Bahia. It’s a swaggy 80s Latin dive bar dance hall and it’s truly an impeccable match thematically for the Tarantino-inspired show we put on. The walls are littered with neons and tropical artwork, and the venue owner Michael is a total yes-man in facilitating all of our unexpected specialty needs. We couldn’t do it without him! It’s a great little family and I feel like every show get’s better and smoother!
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
TARANTINA is a once-monthly, all-woman cabaret showcase that reimagines Quentin Tarantino’s epic femme fatales. It is authentically cast in the sense that I’ve aligned our real-world performers’ skills and talents with those of the fictional characters’. Like for example, Sara VanGillern who plays teenage bodyguard Gogo Yubari in the production is a rope dart artist and is able to handle the mace apparatus very similarly (if not better) than the character in the movie. Come see uncanny real-life pairings and what I’ve heard a handful of people say is the “most fun night out in LA”! Enjoy live music, death-defying performance, bad babes, cheap drinks and all under the roof of swaggy Club Bahia that provides the perfect neon-lit dive bar atmosphere of your wildest dreams. And don’t forget the dance party that follows – we have a DJ spinning Tarantino soundtrack classics all night! I make sure that nothing slips off-brand in hopes that the experience makes guests feel like they have stepped into a deeply curated, believably world!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
To me, success lies in consistency. I don’t let seemingly big successes make me lazy or seemingly big failures make me unmotivated. I personally am a workaholic and can’t even finish watching an episode of a tv show without working on something simultaneously. Make your job fun, make your discipline ruthless, make the people who work for you happy and the rest will follow 🙂
