Meet Edgar Fernandez of Fuzzyvision Records in East Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edgar Fernandez.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Edgar. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m an Animator/Filmmaker/Musician/Graphic Designer from East Los Angeles, CA. I was introduced to music and art at a really young age and was always encouraged by my grandmother and my older cousin to create. Shows like sesame street, mister rogers neighborhood, and land of the lost (to name a few) along with the colorful art and design of the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s really inspired me to create my own colorful world. In my elementary years, I was obsessed with drawing and creating short stories, around the same time I was given my first drum set. I later started getting into working with clay and also took some classes on animation which changed everything! I could now bring my doodles and ideas to life! After high school, I realized that I could tie in all of my passions into one thing… A children’s television show! I realized what my purpose was! I could do music, animation, stop motion, and film all in one and for a great cause. Once I put the idea of having my own kids show out into the universe, magical things started happening.

In a span of five years, I was able to meet and work with my childhood heroes within the kid’s television circuit. From having talks with Sid and Marty Krofft about picking up checks from liberachi and James Dean to getting down on the dance floor with DJ Lance Rock! I quickly realized that the world of influencing young children in a positive way through the magic of television was a very small exclusive party, and I was invited! I’m currently working and developing my first show for kids as well as doing poster art and music videos for some of my favorite artists. My work continues to reflect the heavy influence of 70’s/80’s kids magic and the purpose is to hopefully keep alive the creative child in all of us!

Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. I grew up with a single mother, father was not in the picture and I left home when I was 16. I spent my high school days sleeping at different friends houses and this continued through my college years. Although it was hard, none of it would have been possible without the help of my supportive and loving friends. I sort of created my own family. Through these experiences, I realized how important it is to be compassionate and caring towards people in need and only reaffirmed my goal of helping people through the power of music, film, and animation.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Fuzzyvision Records – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The name of my company is Fuzzyvision Records. Though the word “records” is in the name, it is NOT a record label! Fuzzyvision specializes in Animation, Film, and Graphic Design. Fuzzyvision is known for bringing a thick 1970’s/ 1980’s aesthetic to everything we do! With most of the inspiration stemming from children’s television shows of the 1970’s and 80’s scifi/ fantasy nostalgia. I am so proud to have worked with Sid and Marty Krofft, DJ Lance Rock, The Aquabats, and members of the Sesame Street Workshop! We all share the same goal of influencing the children in a positive, unique and colorful way! I am also very proud of working on the latest Chicano Batman music video, which follows and shines light on the struggles of a boy from El Salvador making his way to the USA to be with his mother. I think what sets us apart from others is our deep passion and understanding of the ones who did it before us and the hunger to also bring something new and innovative to our audience! It’s the colors, the electricity, and the power of positive change that makes Fuzzyvision a world of its own!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I feel so lucky to have been born in Los Angeles. There’s not much that I dislike from this city. I love being near the beach as well as being close to the mountains. It’s like we get a little bit of everything. I also love the fact that it’s the entertainment capital of the world and it’s so surprising how easy it is sometimes to actually meet people in the business that you admire and want to work with. I realize now why people from all over the world come here to pursue their dreams. LA is full of culture and different people, there’s inspiration in every corner. Ok, maybe there is one thing I dislike about LA… The Traffic.
