Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Davidson.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I grew up in and around New York City and went to art museums on a regular basis from a young age. Exposure to so much art reinforced the romantic notion that artists were heroic and art was important.
I became a high school art teacher and taught art in public high schools (in NYC and LA) for over 15 years. Teaching young people about the creative process, art techniques and art history helped me develop my own artistic vision.
Please tell us about your art.
My current work includes photography and painting. Some pieces are traditional photographs, and others are digital prints that I paint over with acrylics. The style ranges from realistic to abstract, and the subject matter is inspired by nature.
Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
It’s personal and depends on what motivates and inspires each artist. Right now I’m inspired by nature and beauty, and my focus is on developing a personal style and vision related to how I see the natural world. I’ve also been (slowly) developing a body of work related to portraiture and the human figure that deals with more existential themes that everyone deals with eventually like aging and loss.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Instagram has the most images of my art at the moment. For the most part, I’ve been focused on creating a body of work as well as developing my artistic vision and haven’t had a chance to promote and sell my art. I’m open to suggestions if anyone has advice for ways to exhibit and sell my art.
