Meet Jason Land of Guitar Ninjas in Burbank

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Land.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always had a passion for coaching, optimizing programs and music; when I developed the Guitar Ninjas course, it was the perfect fusion of all of those passions. The businesses started with a bit of fate and a lot of luck. I was leaving my house to head to a gig when someone approached me asking if I teach; we exchanged information, and I never heard from her again, but a few weeks later the principle of a local elementary school messaged me saying I was referred to her by someone. It turned out to be the woman I met that day! I was able to begin teaching an after-school guitar program at the school which began the journey of Guitar Ninjas! We turned one student into a thriving business with over 240 students within five years!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Any business owner or artist who tells you the journey has been easy is kidding you; there’s nothing easy about growing a business. Every day has its own set of challenges from managing employees, dealing with rental property issues, outsourcing work to free up time and to maintain a high level of energy and excellence. We’ve faced our building flooding, equipment malfunctions and pretty much anything else that can be expected!

Guitar Ninjas is a beginner guitarist community. We specialize in teaching the most efficient and effective beginner guitar lessons available for both kids and adults. Our program is divided into eight levels where students are learning popular songs of various musical genre. Each song is showcasing new techniques, mechanics and music theory.

When a student Levels Up to the next stage in our program, they are awarded a different colored guitar pick. It’s like karate for guitar! We develop the mindset, motivation, and mechanics needed to enjoy a lifetime of guitar playing and start with students as young as 4 and old as 70!

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Passionate, hardworking and independent. I’ve found I operate best when I’m in control of my situation and thrive in an up-tempo environment. I’m able to balance many tasks at once all while keeping steady on my core principle of striving for excellence in everything I’m doing. I take this from being immersed in sports and playing in bands when I was coming up.
