Meet Arya Alexander of Curbstand

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arya Alexander.

Arya, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up in Los Angeles, I never had the cash for parking, so I helped create an app and service that made parking easier and more parker-friendly!

Has it been a smooth road?
Getting others to buy into your idea is always a challenge – and we had some hurdles early on – but thankfully we have two very solid and trusting investors in Mucker Capital and Al Rajhi Bank.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Curbstand story. Tell us more about the business.
CurbStand is a full-service, tech-driven parking management company based in Los Angeles, California that has introduced a modern payment and specialty services platform for the valet and parking industries. The consumer app harnesses the power of smartphone technology to create a seamless valet experience for users to find and pay for parking, and for businesses to better manage their parking operations.

I’m most proud of the company culture we’ve developed over the years. Before I took over as CEO, there were many layoffs and uncertainties as we were struggling to gain traction and financing; however, since 2016, we’ve been able to grow steadily to a solid admin team of 12, and we posted our first profitable quarter at the beginning of 2018, a feat few tech startups are able to claim.

Where do you see your industry going over the next 5-10 years?  Any big shifts, changes, trends, etc?
Those on the emerging technologies side strongly believe cars will be driving themselves within 5 years, and flying in 10.

Those on the parking side are not very threatened by these possibilities, however, they are not so short-sighted to reject the notion that alternatives modes of transportation like Uber and Lyft have decreased the number of cars on the road that need to be parked.

Personally, I’m a firm believer that people – especially those on the higher end of the spectrum – will continue to enjoy driving their own vehicle and will pay a premium for the convenience of someone (or something), park their car for them.
