Meet Amy Rydell of Amy Rydell Landscape Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Rydell.

Amy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always been an artist. In addition to acting and voiceover, I have always had a passion for plants and landscape design. About 15 years ago I began my company. It is grown significantly over the years and my husband helps me run it today. We mostly do high-end residential landscape. As my business has continued to grow it is offered me the opportunity to dive deeper into my real passion which is acting.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In my landscape business, I have been very lucky to have many customers from word-of-mouth connections. In addition, I have connected with many celebrities and business managers who have referred me and my business has grown without any need for promotion.

As in any business working with various clients personalities and styles can sometimes be challenging. This is where my acting skills and ability to talk to people really comes into play. Personal service, as well as design skills, are equally important.

Amy Rydell Landscape Design Inc – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I think my greatest skill in our landscape business is my ability to be flexible and open to other peoples ideas. Being fully aware that this is their home and they are the ones that need to live there not me. It is easy as a designer to fall into the trap of getting stuck in your ideas being the only correct ones. One must really Let the client know that they are heard and understood and that you are always looking out for their best interest.

As an actor, I feel my skill set is similar. As an actor, you must be very flexible and realize once again that your ideas about the role aren’t necessarily correct or the only way to go about it I guess flexibility is really what I find to be most important in running any successful business.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
As far as my acting goes I was able to recently reprise an iconic role my mother played in the original Star Trek series. I played the character of the Romulan commander on the Star Trek continues series and it was a very proud moment for me.

In addition to looking shockingly like my mother did in the 60s the response from the fans was outstanding As we know Star Trek fans are very passionate and extremely opinionated about the accuracy of any Star Trek productions. So to have their support in the way that I did was a very proud moment for me and one that I will never forget.
