Conversations with Anna Agajanyan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Agajanyan.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Our story began in May 2011 with a mother, a daughter, and an idea.

My mom, Jasmine, had already spent nearly 15 years behind the chair as a hairstylist. After dedicating 10 years to the same salon and ultimately feeling undervalued and underappreciated, she made the decision to leave. She knew one thing for certain: she was ready to stop being an employee and build something of her own.

At the same time, I was about to graduate with my bachelor’s degree in Business Finance. My mom was between jobs, I was beginning a new chapter, and I had an idea: Why don’t we open our own salon?

She would lead everything hair—bringing her years of talent, experience, and knowledge—and I would handle the business side.

We put our heads together and The Look Hair Salon was born.

Not long after, while grabbing coffee with my girlfriends in the heart of Glendale, I noticed a vacant unit directly next to the coffee shop. It had plenty of parking, a great location, and most importantly, it was completely empty—a blank canvas where we could design and build the salon we had imagined.

We signed the lease that same month.

Six months later, on 11.11.11, we officially opened the doors to The Look Hair Salon.

Over the next several years, our little family business grew beyond what we had imagined. By 2019, we were the busiest we had ever been, we were running out of space and even began looking into opening a second location.

Then 2020 happened.

Like so many small businesses, COVID changed everything. We went from planning our next chapter to simply fighting to protect everything we had spent years building.

But we made it through.

Now, in 2026, we celebrate 15 years. We’re rebuilding, growing, welcoming a new team and looking toward the future but the heart of The Look has never changed.

Our mission is still the same one my mom and I started with in 2011: exceptional service, talented and experienced stylists, and quality hair care at accessible prices.

We are still family-owned. We still believe everyone deserves a place where they can walk in, feel welcomed, be taken care of, and leave feeling like the best version of themselves.

About 15 years later, we’re still here. Still family. Still growing. Still creating The Look.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Fifteen years in business doesn’t come without challenges. We’ve experienced incredible highs, but we’ve also had seasons that tested us in ways we never expected.

One of our greatest ongoing challenges has been finding the right stylists—people who are not only talented, but who share our values, work ethic, professionalism, and commitment to our clients.

Then came COVID, forcing us to close our doors and leaving us uncertain about what the future would hold. Like many small businesses, we had to fight to stay afloat, rebuild our team and bring our clients back.

Through changing economies, rising costs and shifts within the beauty industry, we’ve continued learning how to keep our salon accessible while maintaining the quality our clients expect. At the same time, running a team means constantly working to keep people motivated, supported and performing at their highest potential.

Perhaps the biggest lesson has been learning to adapt without losing who we are.

Through every change, our focus has remained the same: take care of our team, take care of our clients, provide great hair at fair prices, and keep our doors open for the community that has supported our family for 15 years.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Since opening our doors on 11.11.11, The Look Hair Salon has grown to be one of the most loved spots in Glendale. We’re a family-owned salon rooted in the city’s Armenian-American community and we believe everyone deserves to look and feel their best, without breaking the bank.

With over 25 years in the beauty industry, our skilled stylists and colorists specialize in services including men’s, women’s, and children’s hair cutting, coloring, balayage, ombré, highlights, extensions, and styling. Walk-ins from Glendale and the greater Los Angeles area are always welcome.

Every appointment starts with a quick consultation so we can understand your hair’s history, your day-to-day routine, and the look you’re after. Whether it’s a refreshed balayage, a precision cut, a keratin treatment, beauty treatments like brow tinting and facial threading, or a styled blowout for a special occasion, our stylists tailor the high-quality experience to you. We use professional, salon-grade products and stay current on the latest color and cutting techniques so you leave feeling confident and excited to come back.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
If there’s one thing we’ve learned over the last 15 years, it’s that your team is your backbone and your clients are what make everything go around.

You can have a beautiful space, a great concept and a strong business plan, but the people are what truly make a business successful. Surround yourself with a team that believes in your vision, takes pride in what they do and genuinely wants to contribute to the bigger goal.

And never lose sight of your clients. They are the reason you get to keep doing what you love. Take care of them, listen to them, appreciate their loyalty and never take their business for granted. Some of our clients have been with us through many chapters of our 15-year journey, and that kind of trust means everything to us.

Take care of your team, take care of your clients, stay true to your vision, and always be willing to grow and adapt.

A business may begin with an idea, but it’s the people, your team and your clients, who turn that idea into something that lasts.
