Today we’d like to introduce you to Misty Weltzien.
Hi Misty, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Misty Weltzien, and I often say that I didn’t choose financial services – but that financial services chose me.
My journey has taken me from growing up in a trailer park to becoming an internationally recognized keynote speaker, Chief Executive Officer, and transformational leader in the financial services industry. Along the way, I’ve discovered that my greatest passion is serving as the bridge between high-performance business strategy and making a deeply human impact.
As CEO of Pacific Advisors, I lead one of the top-performing firms within the Guardian Life network, overseeing the full advisor experience, from recruiting and onboarding to leadership, staff, finance, and operations. Under our leadership, Pacific Advisors has become a destination for both experienced advisors and emerging talent who want to build scalable, purpose-driven businesses and careers that matter.
I also have the historic distinction of being the first woman to serve as CEO in the field within Guardian’s network. While I’m proud of what that represents, I see it as much more than a personal milestone. This is an opportunity to expand leadership pathways, challenge conventional thinking, and redefine what’s possible for the women and leaders who come next.
For me, this industry has never been about financial transactions – but familial transformation.
The work we do has the power to change the entire trajectory of a family and their well-being—not just financially, but across generations. That belief shapes how I lead, how I build businesses, and how I measure success.
Outside of work, I’m a wife to my wonderful husband, Travis, and a mom to two incredible boys, Jackson and Ryder. I’m also an active community advocate in Bermuda Dunes, California, and proudly support organizations including Unbound, ASPCA, Bikes for Kids, and the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission.
My north star has always been purpose. This is because leadership isn’t only about the results that we achieve today, but about the people we elevate, the lives we impact, and the legacy we leave behind – some of which we may never see.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not always. There were plenty of moments when I wanted to walk away from this industry- times when imposter syndrome was loud, the challenges felt incredibly big, and I questioned whether I was really capable of doing what was in front of me.
Early in my career, I went after every financial designation I could, thinking that more knowledge and more credentials would make me feel more prepared. Looking back, I do wish I had invested just as much energy into mindset development and personal growth. I’ve learned that technical knowledge can only take you so far. The way that we think, respond, and lead is what ultimately determines how far we can go.
That’s why I believe grit and tenacity are two of the most important muscles we can build as leaders. They don’t develop when everything is easy, but are built in the moments when you’re uncomfortable, uncertain, and tempted to quit.
I’m really proud that I never gave up, and that every challenge taught me something I needed for the next chapter. I’ve learned that sometimes the most important leadership decision you can make is simply to keep going.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Pacific Advisors?

I meet with advisors and professionals every week who want to dream beyond what their current structure or support looks like, and have a special emphasis on helping elevate women, in particular.
Whether it’s for clients, staff, or advisors – we want to help people identify what it truly means to build A Good Life For The Rest Of Your Life – for them and each of their unique dreams, goals, and visions.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Yes. I’m very intentional about how I take care of myself and stay grounded. Every morning, I make time to meditate and journal, and I prioritize physical activity several times a week. Just as importantly, I make intentional time for my husband, boys, parents, and the people I love.
We also travel a great deal as a family. I want our boys to grow up with an appreciation for the world beyond their own experiences – to see different cultures, meet different people, and develop a perspective that can only come from experiencing the world up close and firsthand.
If you asked me about a movie that captures a lot of how I think about life, it would be Rocky. I love the grit, resilience, and tenacity of that character. It’s a reminder that you don’t have to be the most naturally gifted person in the room – but you do have to be willing to keep showing up, keep working, and keep getting back up.
