Today we’d like to introduce you to Joey Lane.
Hi Joey, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started real estate in 2o21 while I was in school to become a PTA (physical therapist assistant). I decided to get my license after watching the real estate market boom in 2020 and wanting to not mis this train of opportunity. Since then I have made my PTA job my full time job as well as real estate (started as part time and is now shifting more toward full time). I am still working as a PTA, while able to close 4-5 deals a year in real estate. My goal one day is to shift 100% to becoming a realtor and opening up my own brokerage.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not a smooth road at all haha. I will latterly take phone calls and need to leave work (PTA job) in the middle of the day to go to meetings or showings. Imagine this, 4am wake up, 5am gym. 6am-6:30am admin work for real estate. 6:30am-3pm PTA. Realtor work from 3-430pm (get home in time to spend time with my wife). Repeat M-F. Sat/Sunday Real estate work (open houses, cold calls, meetings). I feel at times theres no way I can make both work as full time Jobs, but some how, I do .
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Im a realtor, started by working with first time home buyers. Moved into investors and now working with investors and luxury home buyers. Recent closing on a 2.55 M home in HB moved my sights to luxury buyers; same process just a higher number. All emotional and logical components still apply.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Risk and I have a funny relationship. I thinking taking a calculated risk is AMAZING. Knowing your numbers, knowing your possible outcomes BEFORE jumping all in is the way I like my risk. Now, I know there is no way to predict every event that could come from taking a risk (that’s why its risky after all) but with enough backing and enough research, risk is what makes life worth living. Some time soon, I hope to leave my stable job as a PTA and jump head first into real estate with enough money in the back to know if I fail, I still have a solid career waiting for me. However, I do love the thought process of burning the boats…at the same time I do not feel this is a mature thing to do to people that relay on me (family) as 92% or small business fail within the first 2 years.
