Community Highlights: Meet Danny McCarthy of ProCarthy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danny McCarthy.

Danny, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up just outside London, England, where soccer was part of my life almost from the moment I could walk. I started playing at three years old and progressed through the English soccer pyramid, eventually reaching the professional level. The game ultimately brought me across the pond to Southern California, where I continued playing while pursuing my education as a first generation student.

When my playing career came to an end, coaching became a natural next chapter. For more than twelve years, I’ve had the opportunity to work within Southern California’s highly competitive youth soccer landscape, developing players while continuing to learn and grow within the game myself. Soccer has shaped virtually every chapter of my life; you could say it’s all I’ve ever known. Along the way, I also developed an interest in entrepreneurship and began thinking about ways I could use my experience in the game to create something that complemented the work I was already doing in the club environment.

In 2022, my business partner, Vincent Probosz, and I founded ProCarthy to help bridge that gap. Our vision was to create a specialized development environment that could guide athletes both on and off the field, from their formative youth years through college and, for some, into the semi-professional and professional game. Every session has a purpose, with an emphasis on the technical, tactical and psychological details that genuinely translate to competition.

Since then, ProCarthy has grown throughout Southern California, working with everyone from aspiring young players to elite youth, collegiate and professional athletes. What began with specialized training has expanded into private and group development, elite pickup games, player mentorship and college recruitment support. The exciting part is, we’re only getting started.

Ultimately, our ambition is bigger than developing talented soccer players. We want to develop better players, stronger competitors and better people, while continuing to raise the standard for what individual and collective soccer development can look like in the United States.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth road? Absolutely not.

Being in sports from a young age has taught me how to handle numerous setbacks, from being released by professional academies as a kid often being told I was “too small” to moving across the world at 18. I eventually made my way to Los Angeles, all while navigating university, the demands of being a student-athlete, and later learning how to lead as a coach and club director at Beach Futbol Club.

Entrepreneurship has brought an entirely different set of challenges. With ProCarthy, I have had to learn that being passionate about soccer and player development is only one piece of building a successful business. Ive had to learn everything from branding and marketing to hiring, managing people, finances, customer relationships and creating systems that allow the company to grow without sacrificing the quality of what we provide.

I’ve come to realize that entrepreneurship requires being comfortable with taking risks and getting things wrong sometimes. You can’t be afraid to make mistakes. Some of the biggest lessons and opportunities come from simply having the courage to try. That process of turning an idea into a sustainable business has been challenging, but also one of the most rewarding parts of the journey so far. I am very fortunate to have Vincent as a best friend, brother and co-owner to help me along this journey.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
ProCarthy is a private soccer development company built for ambitious players who want more from their development. We work with athletes across Southern California, from young competitive players to collegiate and professional athletes, through private and small-group training, elite pickup games, player development support and college recruitment guidance.

What sets us apart is the level of detail and purpose behind what we do. We don’t believe private training should simply be running players through drills. Our approach combines the technical, tactical and psychological sides of the game, while creating an environment that is competitive, demanding and enjoyable. We want players to understand the game, become more confident competitors and ultimately take greater ownership of their own development.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the culture and reputation we’ve built. Players genuinely want to be part of ProCarthy, and there is a sense of identity around the brand that extends beyond individual training sessions. We’re also incredibly proud of the number of athletes we’ve helped progress into collegiate programs and higher levels of the game.

Ultimately, we want ProCarthy to represent a modern approach to player development. We care about the details, the experience and the person behind the player. There is still a lot we want to build, but everything comes back to the philosophy behind our brand: Done. Different.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Personally, I would say competitiveness and consistency. I’ve always been extremely driven to improve, whether that was as a player, coach, leader or now as an entrepreneur. I’m also very competitive by nature. I want the people and teams I’m involved with to succeed, and I’m constantly looking for ways we can improve. At the same time, I’ve learned that success rarely happens overnight. Being willing to show up consistently, adapt when things don’t work and keep moving forward has probably been the biggest contributor to where I am today.

For ProCarthy specifically, I would say attention to detail and an unwillingness to become complacent. We’re constantly evaluating what we do, listening to our players and finding ways to improve the experience. From our coaching and player development to our culture and brand, we want everything to feel intentional. We’re proud of what we’ve built, but we’re always looking for what’s next.
