Meet Jessica Fernandez-Sheehan of Between Naps Bakery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Fernandez-Sheehan.

Jessica, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
At the beginning of 2026, during the rare moments both my toddlers would nap at the same time, I started baking more seriously from home. Baking honestly became my form of therapy. It’s something that gave me peace, creativity, and a sense of myself outside of the constant chaos of motherhood.

What started as filling quiet pockets of the day slowly turned into something I genuinely fell in love with. Between nap schedules, late nights, messy kitchens, and lots of trial and error, this little business started growing into something bigger than I ever expected.

From my very first pop-up selling out, every order, repost, kind message, and person who has stopped by my stand has meant more to me than you know. The support I’ve received in such a short amount of time still feels surreal sometimes.

Motherhood is truly the reason all of this started. My boys unknowingly gave me the push to pursue something for myself too, and for that I’ll always be grateful.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest challenges I face is balancing being a stay-at-home mom raising my two boys, ages two and four, while also trying to grow and run my small business. I am constantly working to find ways to expand my audience and create a more consistent ordering system outside of pop-up events. While I typically sell out at my pop-ups, maintaining consistent orders can be a challenge. I am also continuously refining my recipes to ensure they align with my baking style, all while creating and managing my content on my own.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Between Naps Bakery is a home-based bakery created from my love of baking and the little pockets of time I found while raising my two young boys. As a stay-at-home mom, I began building my business during nap times, which is where the name Between Naps Bakery came from.

I specialize in creating thoughtfully crafted baked goods and cakes with unique and often Asian-inspired flavor combinations. From cinnamon rolls and cookies to custom cakes and specialty desserts, I focus on creating flavors and designs that feel both familiar and unique. I am constantly experimenting and refining my recipes to ensure that every item reflects my personal baking style and meets the quality I want my customers to experience.

What I am most proud of is building this business from the ground up while raising my two boys. Between Naps Bakery is more than just a bakery to me, it represents creativity, growth, and pursuing something I love while balancing motherhood. I hope customers see the care and intention behind every item I create.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Over the next 5 to 10 years, I hope to see the baking industry continue embracing more diverse flavors and cultural influences. I would love to see Filipino and Asian-inspired desserts become even more widely recognized and appreciated. Personally, I hope to grow Between Naps Bakery by participating in more consistent pop-ups, larger events, and festivals while becoming known for creating unique Filipino and Asian-inspired desserts. I also hope to continue introducing people to flavors they may not have tried before and sharing a part of my culture through my baking.
