Today we’d like to introduce you to Phillip Arellano.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Doing hair Was always a hidden childhood hobby or talent but I avoided pursuing it as a full on career until I had finally ran out of options and gave in , I started beauty school in 2004 and soon after started assisting and training with a rather well known southern California mall hair chain and stayed with that company for about 8 years eventually becoming a manager and educator.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This business is not for the weak , it’s definitely been a bit rocky at times but that definitely part of the territory that comes with being a creative. I think the biggest challenge for me would be the enormous shift to social media midway through my career I’d say the pressure staying on top of trends and building a marketable presence online while simultaneously trying to meet clients needs and make money while balancing out your personal life is a can sometimes be exhausting and a huge challenge. But the rewards of this business are so great. I think learning to be adaptable and staying connected and a willingness to be open to constantly learning is key .
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a hairstylist and colorist with 20 plus years of behind the chair experience, I’m known for dimensional color , and a killer blowout and finish , I’d like to think specialize in sexy bombshell Latina hair. I’m proud of the years of experience I’ve put into my craft , the connections and clientele I’ve built
That has spanned generations, along with the amount of successful and thriving careers I’ve helped teach train and develop through teaching and mentoring I’d say are all things I hold dearly. I think what sets me or anyone else apart from the crowd is figuring out who you are your strengths and weaknesses and being authentically yourself being honest open and never loosing sight that we are service providers and it’s about the client .
What matters most to you? Why?
Currently what matters to me is making an impact in this business and hopefully someday on a greater scale . I’d say building a legacy and making a difference in the industry helping open doors for people that might feel overlooked or disregarded in our industry matters greatly to me at the moment.
