Conversations with Allie Lutz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allie Lutz.

Hi Allie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I got into real estate during a really pivotal time in my life. I had been in a 14-year relationship and was engaged, and when I knew I needed to leave, I also knew I needed to build a serious career for myself—something that would allow me to fully support myself and create real independence.

People had been telling me for a while that I should get into real estate, but I was hesitant because it already felt like such a saturated industry. Then a broker I had gone to USC with asked me to come work with him. At that point, I decided to go all in. I studied day and night, put my head down, got my license, and started working. We were fortunate to be involved with some really significant homes early on, and I just did whatever it took. It was truly a sink-or-swim moment for me, and failure really didn’t feel like an option.

A few years later, in 2015, I was at Craig’s in LA one night with Jay Luchs, and Mauricio Umansky happened to be sitting in the booth next to us. Jay introduced us, Mauricio and I started talking about real estate, and he said, “Come in for an interview.”

The Agency was still very young at the time. Beverly Hills was really the home base, and Brentwood had just opened. Back then, you actually sat down with Mauricio and Billy Rose for your interview. I had also just completed a deal representing Luis Miguel, the Mexican singer, and I think Mauricio was curious about how I had ended up with a client like that. We talked, and he hired me on the spot that day.

Fast forward to today, and I’m now the Managing Partner of The Agency’s South Bay office in Manhattan Beach. I’ve definitely come a long way from that first sink-or-swim chapter of my career, and I’ve also grown tremendously alongside The Agency. It really has become a family to me, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities, the relationships, and the journey that brought me here.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’d answer this in a way that’s honest but still polished and empowering — acknowledging that the road was hard without making it feel overly heavy.

Definitely not. I think from the outside, real estate can sometimes look glamorous, but there have been a lot of difficult seasons behind the scenes.

When I first got into the business, I was rebuilding my life personally and trying to create financial independence for myself at the same time. There was a lot of pressure to make it work, and real estate is not a career where you’re guaranteed a paycheck. You have to create your own opportunities, build trust, stay consistent, and keep going even when deals fall apart or things don’t go your way.

There were definitely moments where I questioned myself, especially in such a competitive and saturated industry. I had to learn quickly, prove myself, and figure out how to stand out while building a reputation from the ground up.

As my career grew, the challenges changed. Balancing being a mom, building a business, serving clients at a high level, and eventually stepping into leadership has required a lot of sacrifice and resilience. There have been seasons where I’ve carried a tremendous amount of responsibility, both personally and professionally.

But I also think those harder seasons are what shaped me the most. They taught me how to be resourceful, how to stay calm under pressure, how to work through uncertainty, and how to keep moving forward even when the path isn’t clear.

I wouldn’t say it’s been a smooth road, but I’m incredibly grateful for the road I’ve had. Every challenge has made me a stronger agent, leader, and person.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a luxury real estate agent and the Managing Partner of The Agency’s South Bay office in Manhattan Beach. My primary focus is the South Bay and surrounding areas of Los Angeles, but I also dabbled in Orange County (where I’m from) and have had a lot of great business in Aspen, Colorado, where I’m also licensed. I’ve been fortunate to work on everything from family homes and coastal properties to some really incredible luxury estates.

I think what people know me for most is that I’m very hands-on and I care a lot. I’m competitive, I want to win for my clients, and I’m not afraid to work hard or get creative to make something happen. At the same time, I never want this business to feel transactional. A lot of my clients become friends, and so much of my business has come from repeat clients and referrals, which means a lot to me.

I’m really proud of what I’ve been able to build. I was ranked the #2 agent in Manhattan Beach by sales volume, I’ve been named an LA Magazine Real Estate All-Star, received The Agency’s Chairman’s Award for being in the top 5% of agents company-wide, and have also been recognized as an Agency MVP. I was also part of Buying Beverly Hills on Netflix, which was such a fun experience and definitely something I never would have imagined when I first got into real estate.

Becoming Managing Partner of our South Bay office has also been one of the most meaningful parts of my career. I joined The Agency when it was still really small, so to now help lead and grow an office in my own community feels very full circle. I love selling real estate, but I also really enjoy mentoring agents, helping people grow their businesses, and being part of building something bigger than just my own career.

I’m also a mom of three girls, which has probably made me even better at juggling a million things at once. They are hands down my biggest motivation. They’ve taught me so much about perspective, time management, patience, and what really matters. I want them to see that you can work hard, build something meaningful, be present for your family, and keep pushing yourself at the same time.

I think what sets me apart is that I’m willing to do whatever it takes. I’m very involved in the details, from pricing and positioning to marketing and negotiation, and I’m also really big on relationships. I want my clients to feel like they have someone in their corner who is going to be honest with them, protect them, and fight for the best outcome.

And truthfully, the thing I’m most proud of isn’t an award or a ranking. My biggest flex is my faith in Jesus. My faith is a huge part of who I am, how I try to live, how I lead, and how I get through both the really great seasons and the hard ones. I’m proud to share that because it’s the foundation of everything for me.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that you really have to trust the process and keep showing up, especially when things don’t look the way you thought they would.

There have been so many moments in my life and career where I couldn’t see what was coming next. Getting into real estate in the first place came out of a really difficult season, and at the time I was just trying to survive and build a life for myself. Looking back now, I can see how so many of those hard moments were actually redirecting me toward something bigger.

I’ve also learned that success is rarely a straight line. Deals fall apart, clients come and go, markets change, and there are seasons where you question everything. You can’t control all of it. What you can control is your work ethic, how you treat people, your integrity, and whether you keep going.

And for me, faith has been a huge part of that. I’ve learned to trust God’s timing more than my own. Some of the things I prayed for didn’t happen the way I wanted them to, and now I can look back and be so grateful they didn’t. That perspective has helped me through both my personal life and my career.

I think the lesson I keep coming back to is: work hard, treat people well, stay grateful, and trust that where you are today isn’t necessarily where you’re going to end up. Sometimes the seasons that feel the hardest are the ones that end up changing your life the most.
