Hidden Gems: Meet DeAnna Kane of KC Media Publishing

influencewomen.orgToday we’d like to introduce you to DeAnna Kane.

Hi DeAnna, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?

My journey has always centered around women, connection, and creating meaningful experiences. I began working as a large-scale event producer for women’s ministry organizations and fundraising events, including events for the Museum of the Bible, while also serving as a writer and content coordinator. Along the way, I earned my Master of Science in Education with a 4.0 GPA, which strengthened my passion for communication, learning, and equipping others with knowledge they can use. My passion for entrepreneurship and supporting women led me to accept the position of Influence Women Hollywood Chapter Director because I believe women supporting women help communities grow and economies thrive.

Eventually, I felt led to take everything I had learned about events, hospitality, communication, and women’s communities and create something that could reach women beyond a single gathering. That vision became Heart of Hospitality Magazine—a women’s lifestyle publication designed to encourage women while sharing practical and inspiring ideas about hospitality, home, décor, family, vocation, etiquette, entertaining, relationships, gathering, and everyday life. What began as a vision has grown into a publication reaching women in 43 countries.

Through every chapter, my greatest passion has remained the same: creating community, building meaningful connections, and using whatever gifts and opportunities God has given me to encourage others. Ultimately, I want my work to glorify God, bring people together, and make a difference that extends far beyond what I could accomplish on my own.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey hasn’t been smooth—and I don’t think it is meant to be. Life is full of challenges because we often learn to grow, adapt, pivot, and ultimately thrive through them. There have been wonderful days and difficult ones, seasons of uncertainty and seasons of great joy. When things become overwhelming, I have learned to step back, hit the reset button, quiet the noise, and listen for what God is saying. Sometimes the answer is to pull up your bootstraps and keep moving forward; other times, it is simply to breathe, be still, and allow the situation to unfold.

One of the greatest challenges of entrepreneurship is financial stability. When we launched our publishing company, we had no financial backing, so we had to find creative ways to move our vision forward. We remained digital, produced much of the content ourselves, and built relationships with talented contributors who believed in what we were creating. What initially felt like a limitation became an unexpected blessing. Because we chose not to take out loans or bring on outside investors, we had the freedom to build at our own pace without the pressure of monthly debt or investor obligations.

Only eight months after we began production, COVID-19 changed the world. While so many businesses suddenly faced enormous financial pressure, we were incredibly grateful we had made the decisions we did in those early days. What looked like a struggle at the beginning had actually prepared us for one of the greatest challenges we would face. It taught me that sometimes the obstacle in front of you is also preparing you for what is ahead. Challenges don’t always mean you’re on the wrong path. Sometimes, they are the very thing that teaches you how to stay on it.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
About My Business

Heart of Hospitality Magazine is a women’s lifestyle publication built around one simple belief: hospitality is about far more than entertaining—it is about creating connection, community, and a sense of belonging. We cover everything from home décor, entertaining, etiquette, family, vocation, and relationships to travel, self-care, and the many things that enrich women’s lives.

What sets us apart is our focus on the person behind the lifestyle. We aren’t simply telling women how to create a beautiful home or host a great event; we want to equip and encourage them to create environments where people feel welcomed, valued, and connected. I am especially proud that what began as an idea has grown into a publication reaching women in 43 countries.

My work with Heart of Hospitality directly influences the way I serve as an Influence Women Director. Every day, I am thinking about how to bring people together, create meaningful experiences, recognize the value each person brings, and build communities where women genuinely support one another. IW gives me another opportunity to put those principles into practice. In many ways, my business has taught me how to create the kind of community I want my IW chapter to be—and IW continually challenges me to become an even better leader.

What matters most to you?
What Matters Most to Me

What matters most to me is creating a community where women encourage, champion, and genuinely want to see one another thrive. I want to help abolish the preconceived notion that women have to compete with one another to succeed—that another woman has to be pushed down, overlooked, or diminished for us to rise. I believe we serve an amazing God who has room at the top for all of us.

My greatest passion is encouraging women in the business world and helping them recognize their value, pursue their goals, open doors for one another, and succeed without losing sight of who they are. When women support women, the impact reaches far beyond the individual. Successful, confident women strengthen families, build stronger communities, create opportunities for others, and contribute to thriving economies.

This is one reason I value Influence Women so deeply. At every IW event, I tell my ladies, “If you don’t leave here with at least three new people’s contact information, you’ve missed the point.” We are not simply gathering to hear an inspiring speaker or check an event off our calendar. We are there to connect, encourage, build relationships, and find the women we are naturally drawn to—the women who become part of our tribe.

For me, true influence isn’t about being the woman at the top; it is about reaching back, bringing other women with you, and making sure there is room for them to rise, too. When we create a community where women celebrate each other’s wins, share their connections, open doors, and genuinely want one another to succeed, we all rise. That is the kind of community I want to create, the kind of leader I strive to be, and the kind of Influence Women chapter I want to build.
