Conversations with Azeez Ogunlana

Today we’d like to introduce you to Azeez Ogunlana.

Hi Azeez, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
OGUNLANA AZEEZ OLAMILEKAN popularly known as Zeekow Madarc was born on September 4th 1998 in Ile-Ife, Osun State situated in the western part of Nigeria where I studied and live most of my life.

I started my musical career when I was ten years old but things don’t go the way I wanted due to inexperience and lack of support. I continued with my career when I finished my secondary school level in 2014.

My musical genres are uncategorized because I am multitalented and has released few singles and collaborations.

I performed at several occasions, festivals, lounges in Osun, Kwara and Lagos state. I was well known for my tight harmonies, decency and respect for individuals. I recorded my first single in 2015 but not promoted due to lack of funds and sponsorships. I had to hustle for another five years just to build my career again. I was an avid songwriter and currently working on my first album.

I continued my tertiary level in Kwara state polytechnic studied mass communication and worked as a reporter for Crown Radio 101.5 FM. I wished to furthermore with my education but the struggle life does not give room to such things anymore so I had to focus on career for now. I want to seek more knowledge later on when I have it all.

My love for music makes me quite my job so I can dedicate my time to my career with the motive of gaining the recognition of the people all over the world.

I am also into modeling and fashion designing like tailoring, styling and embroidering. Sometimes I wished to chase my acting career as well because I started everything from tender age.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I faced a lot along the way because I lost my mom 41 days after my birth but I was raised by my siblings and loved ones. It’s very hard to survive this kind of situation when you are not even strong enough to live by yourself.

I wished to study music in school when I am about to gain admission into tertiary institution but this kind of course is not taken serious in my country.

Financial instability is part of what slow me down because I believed that I am supposed to be famous and making money from the career by now.

The people I also looked up to in the music industry believed that I am not good enough to fit in. Some even sees me as a competitor and try to compare their life with mine. I am a man of integrity and humanity, I was born to create but not to fit in. I respected them a lot but they are disloyal and disrespectful.

I have a lot of rich people around me but nobody helps because they are not sure about the vision yet and some even withdrawn support because they don’t want you to get there.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I love writing music and flow on new beats because music is life. I love acting as well because I started from kindergarten and also into modeling in which I started with school fashion parade before turning it into something professional. And what makes me different is because I own my recipe and not trying to be someone else.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Eld-l-Adha celebrations, School holidays, Christmas, Birthday celebrations and New Year celebrations.
