Exploring Life & Business with Farah of Farah Afnan Meditates

Today we’d like to introduce you to Farah.

Hi Farah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Ever since I was a little girl, I felt connected to something bigger than myself, what I would now call the Universe. I was also incredibly sensitive to the people around me and could pick up on their sadness, insecurities, excitement, and joys. Basically, I was the kid who knew something was going on before anyone actually said anything. 😂

As I got older, I discovered that closing my eyes and trusting those tiny, quiet moments between thoughts allowed me to find clarity and feel grounded. I didn’t have the language for it at the time, but I was learning how to trust my intuition.

Interestingly, my professional life initially went in a very different direction. Before teaching meditation and giving readings, I was completely focused on the creative world. I worked in improv and sketch comedy, as well as production, post-production, and events. Looking back, though, it doesn’t feel quite as unrelated as it once did. Creativity has always felt like a form of meditation or prayer to me, a way of quieting the mind enough to download something from a bigger Universal energy.

In 2005, I started helping friends with meditation and intuitive readings. It wasn’t really a business at first. It was simply something I loved doing and something people kept coming to me for. Over the years, that side of my life continued to grow alongside my creative work.

By 2017, the transition into doing this professionally felt completely natural. I realized that the things I’d been intuitively drawn to since childhood, and the things I’d spent years exploring through creativity, meditation, and personal growth, were all pointing in the same direction.

Today, I’m a psychic, meditation teacher, Reiki Master Practitioner, and certified Yoga Teacher. My work is ultimately about helping people get out of their heads for a moment, reconnect with themselves, and find a little more clarity when life feels confusing, stuck, or just plain icky. And honestly, there’s something pretty wonderful about getting to do work that has been quietly following you your entire life.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth roads don’t exist. If they do, please let me know where they are. HA! I don’t have one friend who has had an easy ride, and I certainly haven’t either.

I once had a client tell me that she wished she were psychic because then she would always know what to do and her life would be easier. I was immediately like, “Yeah, that’s so not how it works.” My closest friends are healers and psychics, and we have a hard time figuring out careers, finances, health, family, friendships, and relationships just like everybody else. Being intuitive doesn’t give you a free pass through life.

My own struggles have been pretty relatable. I’ve navigated health challenges, food allergies, divorce, inflation, and the experience of parenting a daughter with serious food allergies.

I’ve also had to learn a lot about boundaries. Because I’ve always been able to tune into what people are feeling underneath the surface, I naturally felt like I should be there for anyone and everyone. If I could sense that someone was hurting, anxious, angry, or struggling, my instinct was to listen, help, or somehow make it better.

It took me a long time to realize that being able to feel what someone is carrying doesn’t mean I’m responsible for carrying it with them. Without healthy boundaries, that kind of sensitivity can become a very open door for people who haven’t learned how to process their own emotions or recognize when they’re putting too much onto someone else. Some people will go from person to person looking for somewhere to unload, and if you’re naturally empathetic and willing to listen, you can become a pretty easy stop along the way.

At one point I asked my cousin and my teenage daughter why this seemed to happen to me so often. Their answer was basically, “Because you’re nice and people know they can get away with it.” Ouch. 😂 And let’s be honest, when your teenage daughter is the one telling you that you need better boundaries, there’s probably some truth to it.

I learned that lesson the hard way, and honestly, I learned it later in life than I probably should have. I’m still learning how to stay open and caring without making myself responsible for everyone else’s emotions. I can have compassion for what someone is going through without taking it on as my own.

I’ve never really bought into the idea that some people have life completely figured out and can tell everyone else how to do it. I think sometimes we’ve become so focused on finding the person who has all the answers that we start wondering what’s wrong with us because we don’t have everything figured out yet.

But what if that’s actually the point? What if we’re not supposed to have it all figured out? There is something really beautiful about waking up every day with a clean slate and the opportunity to discover something new about yourself, your life, and the world around you.

I don’t have all the answers, and I don’t think anyone does. What I do have are tools that have helped me navigate the hard parts with more clarity, trust, and perspective. And maybe that’s much more useful than pretending there is some secret formula for getting life right.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Farah Afnan Meditates?
Since childhood, I’ve connected with the Angelic Realm to receive intuitive insight and gentle guidance. Today, I share that through psychic readings, Angelic Realm mapping, meditation sessions, and energy work. I also offer customized one on one meditation and workplace meditation, where I’ve had the opportunity to support professionals and teams at organizations including Wedbush, Union Bay, Outdoor Voices, The Center Method, and AECOM.

My work with individuals is often centered around helping people who feel stuck, scattered, or energetically off reconnect with their intuition, find clarity, and feel more grounded in their next steps. My readings aren’t about telling someone exactly what their future will look like. They’re about offering insight, possibilities, and perspective, while helping people feel more connected to their own inner knowing.

One thing that is particularly important to me is that spirituality doesn’t have to mean abandoning common sense. I can talk about the Angelic Realm, meditation, and the Universe and still believe in practical, actionable steps. That’s actually a big part of what I love about my work. I want the spiritual experience to be meaningful, but I also want people to be able to take something from it into their very real, very everyday lives.

I’m probably most proud of the feeling people take away from working with me. I want people to feel hopeful, gently anchored, and reminded that they have value. I want them to feel supported by something bigger than themselves and to remember that they are authentically loved.

I’ve also been fortunate to share meditation and mindfulness outside of my private practice, volunteering with organizations including the Los Angeles Unified School District, Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles, Downtown Women’s Center LA, and From the Heart Tribe.

Whether someone is deeply immersed in a spiritual practice or simply curious if there might be “something more,” they’re welcome here. There doesn’t have to be a perfect belief system or a prerequisite level of woo. There just has to be some willingness to pause, listen, and see what might be possible.

How do you define success?
How do I define success? That’s a very loaded question that has evolved over the decades and can probably change hour to hour, depending on the day.

When I was younger, success meant working on high-benchmark creative projects, going to dinner parties, rollerblading, and going to concerts. Then, as it does for many people, my definition shifted toward financial well-being and feeling secure.

These days, success is much more about the life I’m actually experiencing. Yes, it still involves plenty of Hollywood Bowl concerts, because some things don’t need to change. But watching my daughter thrive in her daily life, overcome the challenges that have come with her serious food allergies, laugh with her friends, sing along at a Twenty One Pilots or Empire of the Sun concert, or say something so funny and unexpectedly wise that I think, “Yep, I’m doing pretty darn good,” feels like success to me.

Of course, helping people through meditation, readings, and Reiki will always give me a sense that I’ve contributed something meaningful to the world. I don’t think success has to mean changing the world on a massive scale. Sometimes it’s simply knowing that something you did made another person’s day, or maybe even their life, a little better.

And then there are the very real earthly details. We are human beings having this experience on the earthly realm, so yes, finances matter. Financial stability gives us choices, freedom, and the ability to take care of ourselves and the people we love. I’m not particularly interested in pretending money doesn’t matter just because I’m spiritual.

But these days, one of my biggest measures of success is joy. Deep laughter. Feeling connected. Being curious. Enjoying a great cup of coffee. Going to a concert with my daughter. Having moments where I look around and think, “This is really good.” Those moments tell me I’m on the right path.

Maybe that’s the biggest evolution in my definition of success. I used to think success was about what I was accomplishing. Now, I think it’s much more about how I feel while I’m living the life I’m creating.
