Check Out Hector Verdugo’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hector Verdugo.

Hi Hector, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my life in Ramona Gardens housing projects. Lived there till I was about 14years old and got caught up in the gang life. I was in juvenile detention for a few years. I loved National Geographic magazine. Loved exploring the world through their pictures and articles.

I graduated to prison and continued reading and exploring travel magazines. I finally changed my life through Homeboy Industries and became a part of that team. My thirst for adventure and travel never stopped.

I finally got a passport and was off! Denmark, Sweden, Ireland, and so many other countries I’ve been blessed to explore. My eyes have seen so much and I still can’t wait to pack my bags to continue to explore!

I shot a pilot tv show recently about “homies” traveling around the world. It’s just about ready for pitching to different networks. I’m so excited!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve had so many struggles but thank God I’ve learned to adapt. There’s so much to say about that.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve lived an interesting life. My parents were gang-members and drug addicted. My cards were rough from the beginning. I learned about healing and loving myself through Father Greg Boyle and Homeboy Industries, a Los Angeles non-profit organization. I became one of the staff there and eventually became one of the leaders of the organization.

We help gang members and convicted felons find their true selves and help guide them to healing and loving themselves.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Never giving up and knowing I’m worthy of love!
