Hi Deon aka Grammer otg, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
“I started my journey in music with a passion for hip-hop and a determination to create my own path. Over the years, I’ve had opportunities to open for major artists including Destiny’s Child, Ciara, Fat Joe, Gucci Mane, and 50 Cent, and I was featured on Sway In The Morning after winning a Roc The Mic competition.

As an independent artist, I’ve experienced both the highs and challenges that come with pursuing music without a major label behind you. Those experiences pushed me to become more than just an artist. I built my own brand, Grammer OTG, and continued developing On The Grind Entertainment while learning the business, marketing, production, and creative sides of the industry.

Today, I’m still creating music, building my brand, and evolving as an entrepreneur. My story is really about persistence—continuing to believe in yourself, adapt, and keep moving forward even when the journey doesn’t happen overnight.”

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
You could put:

It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. As an independent artist, one of the biggest challenges has been navigating the music industry without the resources and support of a major label. I’ve had to learn the business, invest in myself, build relationships, and continue creating even when opportunities didn’t happen as quickly as I wanted. There have been setbacks, disappointments, and moments where I had to regroup, but those experiences strengthened my work ethic and taught me the importance of consistency, patience, and believing in my vision. I’ve learned that every obstacle is part of the journey, and I’m still on the grind.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an independent hip-hop artist and songwriter performing as Grammer OTG, as well as the founder of On The Grind Entertainment. I’ve built my career through persistence, live performance, songwriting, recording, and developing my own brand independently. Over the years, I’ve had opportunities to open for major artists including 50 Cent, Gucci Mane, Fat Joe, Ciara, Destiny’s Child, and Pastor Troy, and I was featured on Sway In The Morning after winning a Roc The Mic competition.

I’m most proud of continuing to evolve creatively while staying authentic to who I am. My music reflects real-life experiences, confidence, maturity, and perseverance. What sets me apart is that I approach being an artist as both a creative and an entrepreneur—I’m involved in everything from writing and recording to branding, marketing, and building relationships within the industry. My goal is to create music with longevity while continuing to expand Grammer OTG into a recognizable independent brand.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my strongest childhood memories is sitting with my boombox listening to the radio while my grandmother and cousin played cards. I had gotten in trouble that day, so instead of playing with them, I went to the back of the house and sat in my room. I was 12 years old, and that was the day I created my first song. Something clicked for me, and from that moment on, music became a part of who I was.

Shortly afterward, I moved with my mother from Scotland Neck, North Carolina, to Staten Island, New York. It was a completely different environment, and I received almost instant recognition from people because of my ability to rap. That gave me the confidence to realize that what started in my bedroom back in North Carolina wasn’t just something I enjoyed—it was a real talent. From there, music became a journey I knew I wanted to pursue.
