Conversations with Mark Gunter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Gunter.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Mark Gunter, professionally known as Mark G On Point. My journey in the fashion industry began in the 1970s, inspired by my mother’s involvement in professional fashion shows. As a child, I had the unforgettable opportunity to walk the runway and open a show for the legendary Ebony Fashion Fair.

My love for fashion eventually led me from modeling on the runway to working behind the camera. Photography began as a hobby, but it quickly developed into a rewarding professional career. I was fortunate to turn something I genuinely enjoyed into a profession that allowed me to remain connected to the fashion community.

My photography journey began in Wichita Falls, Texas, where I started by capturing photographs from the audience and along the runway. From there, my work expanded throughout the United States to Sacramento, San Francisco, Oakland, Los Angeles, San Diego, Dallas, Greenville, Miami, Tampa, Seattle, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Palm Springs, and many other cities.

My career also took me internationally to the Bahamas, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the British Virgin Islands, Guatemala, China, and other destinations around the world. Through years of dedication, experience, and a passion for capturing fashion in motion, I established myself as an international runway and celebrity fashion photographer.

What began as a childhood experience on the runway ultimately became a lifelong journey on both sides of the lens.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Some of my greatest struggles, both within and outside the runway fashion industry, came from working to gain and earn the respect of my fellow photographers. That respect was not given it was earned through years of dedication, professionalism, consistency, and allowing the quality of my work to speak for itself.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My expertise is fashion and runway photography. Truthfully, I believe all photographers share the same passion by nature; what makes each of us unique is our individual perspective—how we see, interpret, and capture the world through our lens.
