Meet Brittany Hampton of A Taste of Our Home

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Hampton.

Hi Brittany, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
A Taste of Our Home really started from something simple: our love for bringing people together through food. In our family, food has always been more than just something you eat, it’s how we gather, celebrate, love on one another, and create memories.

What started with our Sunday dinners grew naturally as more people began enjoying the food and asking us to cook for different occasions. Those Sunday meals became the foundation for A Taste of Our Home and eventually opened the door for us to expand into catering, including brunches, breakfasts, celebrations, and special events.

The name A Taste of Our Home truly represents what we want people to experience. When you eat our food, we want it to feel familiar, comforting, and made with love, like sitting down at someone’s family table for Sunday dinner. Whether it’s fried chicken, catfish, mac and cheese, greens, shrimp and grits, or one of our brunch spreads, there is a little piece of us in everything we prepare.

We’re still growing, learning, and dreaming about what A Taste of Our Home can become, but we’re proud that something rooted so deeply in family and tradition has grown into something we can now share with our community. At the end of the day, we aren’t just serving food, we’re sharing a piece of our home with every plate.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. Like many small businesses, one of our biggest challenges has been figuring out how to turn something we love doing into a sustainable business while still balancing our everyday lives, families, careers, and responsibilities.

There has been a lot of learning along the way—from pricing our food appropriately and managing the cost of ingredients to figuring out how much we can realistically take on without sacrificing the quality and love we put into our food. When you’re building something from the ground up, you quickly realize there is so much happening behind the scenes that people never see.

We’ve also had moments where we questioned whether we should keep going, especially when business was slower than we hoped or when life simply got busy. But those moments have also helped us grow. We’ve learned not to measure our success by how quickly we grow, but by the reputation we build, the people who continue to support us, and the customers who come back because they remember how our food made them feel.

A Taste of Our Home is still a work in progress, and we’re okay with that. Every challenge has taught us something about business, about each other, and about what we want this brand to become. We’re proud that through all of the ups and downs, we’ve continued to come back to the reason we started: family, good food, and creating something that feels like home.

As you know, we’re big fans of A Taste of Our Home . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
A Taste of Our Home is a family-centered catering business specializing in soulful, comforting food made for gathering. Our menu is rooted in the foods we grew up eating and the meals that bring people together—Sunday dinners, family celebrations, holidays, brunches, and those moments where everyone somehow ends up in the kitchen.

We are especially known for our soul food and comfort-food favorites, but we also love creating brunch and breakfast experiences and customized menus for different occasions. Whether we’re preparing an intimate brunch, birthday celebration, family gathering, or larger catered event, we want the food to feel personal rather than mass-produced.

What sets us apart is really in our name: A Taste of Our Home. We aren’t trying to give people a restaurant experience—we want to give them a home experience. The same care, seasoning, portions, presentation, and love that go into the meals we prepare for our own family are what we want our customers to experience. We want someone to take that first bite and immediately think, “This tastes like somebody made this at home.”

Brand-wise, I’m most proud that we have stayed true to that identity as we’ve grown. We don’t want growth to mean losing the warmth and authenticity that made people love our food in the first place. There is a story, a memory, and a little piece of our family behind what we serve.

More than anything, we want people to know that A Taste of Our Home is about connection. Food has an incredible way of bringing people to the same table, and we feel honored when someone chooses our food to be part of their special moments. When you invite A Taste of Our Home to your event, we’re not just bringing the food—we’re bringing a little piece of our home to yours.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What we love most about our city is the diversity and sense of community. There are so many different cultures, traditions, families, and stories represented here, and food is one of the ways we all connect. As a food business, we love being able to serve people from different backgrounds and be part of their birthdays, celebrations, family gatherings, and special moments. There is also something really special about seeing people support local and family-owned businesses and watching the community show up for one another.

If we had to choose something we like least, it would probably be how difficult it can sometimes be for small businesses to get the same visibility and opportunities as larger, established businesses. There are so many talented entrepreneurs right here in our community who people may never hear about simply because they don’t have the same resources or platform.

That is also why opportunities to highlight local businesses are so important. We want to see our city continue creating spaces where small businesses can grow, collaborate, and become part of what makes our community special.
