Rising Stars: Meet Nina Madzirov of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Madzirov.

Hi Nina, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey as an artist started with music and playing piano. I grew up in an artistic family, so creativity and art were always a big part of my life. Music was my first introduction and from there I found my way into acting, which quickly became my biggest passion.

I studied Acting for Film and Television at the New York Film Academy and I began building my career as an actress while also exploring the world of writing and producing. I wrote, produced, and starred in my short film Glass, which premiered at the TCL Chinese Theatre and went on to receive more than 25 international film festival awards, including Best Actress, Best Indie Film, and Best Inspirational Story.

That experience opened the door for me to become more involved in producing and filmmaking. I’ve since worked on several award-winning projects, including the short documentary John Van Hamersveld: Crazy World Ain’t It, which premiered at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival and received Academy Award qualification in 2021.

Today, I’m primarily focused on acting, while continuing to write and produce stories that I feel passionate about.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I can say that there have been a few ups and downs in my life. The most important thing is to keep going. After all, the show must go on.

I feel that the biggest struggle I’ve ever faced was realizing that I had to move forward without my dad. My dad was my rock for my entire life. He was my teacher, my hero, and my inspiration, the person I looked up to. And then, all of a sudden, he was gone.

But eventually, I realized that he and his art will always live on through me and my brother, who is a musician. I carry everything he taught me with me, and I feel that in a way, continuing to create is also a way of keeping his spirit and legacy alive.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an actress, writer, and producer, with acting being at the heart of what I do. I specialize in film and television.

I’m probably best known for Glass, a short film that I wrote, produced, and starred in. It premiered at the TCL Chinese Theatre and received more than 25 international film festival awards, including Best Actress, Best Indie Film, and Best Inspirational Story. I’m very proud of what Glass achieved, but even more proud of the personal meaning behind it and the fact that it connected with audiences around the world.

What I think sets me apart is my background and the different perspectives I bring to my work. Growing up between New York City and Europe and coming from an artistic family shaped the way I see storytelling. I’m not afraid to be vulnerable and bring personal experiences into my work. Whether I’m acting, writing, or producing, I want to create stories that feel honest, human, and emotionally impactful.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I think one of the most important things when looking for a mentor is to find someone you genuinely connect with.
For me, The Acting Center has been a very important part of my journey, and my teacher Amanda Reed has had a significant impact on me as an actress. Her guidance and The Acting Center technique have helped me grow into the artist I am today.

Beyond the technique itself, being part of that community has taught me the importance of having the right people around you – people who support you.
