Meet Candice Brock of West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Candice Brock.

Hi Candice, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always performed in some capacity for as long as I can remember. Singing was honestly my first love. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t sing! I started taking lessons when I was eight and then from there it slowly turned into a love for musical theater and getting involved in musicals when I was a preteen/teenager.

By the time I was in high school I knew I wanted to be an actor or be on Broadway. I grew up in the Philly area, so there weren’t a lot of opportunities, but I got an agent when I was in high school and started taking some classes in the area, but it was a challenge being in school and trying to make it to auditions.

I eventually decided I wanted to major in theater in college and I got accepted into the Penn State Theatre program. My time in the program did not go as expected. I actually ended up switching my major after freshman year because I had a teacher who didn’t think I was good enough to continue. That was really hard for me and it was my first big rejection and really shook my confidence. I ended up switching my major to broadcast journalism and had an amazing experience in my program. I got super involved in our student run television station and did several internships in the area. I still pursued a theater minor and was involved in a student run sketch comedy show, a really fun creative outlet for me.

Eventually I made it to LA doing a summer internship and after that summer, I knew I wanted to move here permanently. At the time I thought I wanted to pursue Entertainment News. I was super fortunate to get a job out of college in the industry doing Entertainment News for a little over 2 years. I got to work red carpets, cover press junkets and new film releases. But the entire time I was doing this I just always felt like I would rather be on the other side being the one who is actually in the project!

I ended up getting laid off from that job and was feeling a bit lost. I was having such a hard time finding another job that I decided while I was looking why not take an acting class again. I started training at Ivana Chubbuck’s studio and rediscovered how much I loved and missed acting. It just felt so good to be doing it again. It re-inspired me to invest in all of the creative things that make me, me. I decided to pursue acting again and it’s been quite the journey! I’ve tried to make peace with what happened all those years ago and I’ve realized there’s going to be plenty of rejections along the way, but there also have been plenty of wins too!

I also returned to singing during Covid and began training with Robin Dale Meyers at Margie Haber’s acting studio. Interestingly enough Covid was the most creative I have ever felt in years and I am weirdly grateful for that time. I’ve been able to keep that energy since and always make time weekly for the creative things that make me feel like myself.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As previously stated rejection, ha ha. My high school and college years were also pretty difficult. I actually lost my dad to cancer my freshman year of high school. It was a really challenging time dealing with it and processing my emotions around it. I kind of lost my desire to do creative things like musical theater and singing for a little bit. Both of my parents were always super supportive and I am grateful that my dad got to see at least some of my performances before he passed.

Then theater school was really rough. I felt really harshly judged there and not accepted in my program but also can acknowledge that there were things I did wrong too. Freshman year of college is a big adjustment and in the end I just don’t think it was the right program for me, but I definitely regret the fact that it made me completely not want to pursue acting anymore for a bit. I know I’m hardly the only person that this has happened to, but I really wish that one opinion didn’t make me lose my love for acting for as long as it did.

It also can be really challenging as a mixed race actor. I find that still even now in the year 2026 sometimes this industry doesn’t know what to do with someone who looks like me and it can be frustrating. But I’ve managed to get a good team on my side and a super supportive community of other actors. I recently joined Stan Kirsch Studios at the beginning of this year and have just found the most amazing, supportive, uplifting community and I’ve learned so much during my time there.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an actor and singer, I work commercially and theatrically. I’m honestly most proud of a lot of the musical theater I’ve done. I was on a national tour for a political sketch comedy musical where I played Kamala Harris and that was a big deal for me. Getting up in front of people in that capacity again, there was a time where I didn’t think that was in the cards for me.

I’m honestly proud of every audition I’ve done and every project that I’ve booked. This industry can be incredibly difficult with so much rejection. I still enjoy so much about it because this is what I’ve always wanted to do. This is my dream so to actually get to be here doing it and pursuing it is really exciting. It’s what I’ve always wanted so I’m really proud of myself for having the courage to do this and put myself out there. This is not an easy thing that we actors all want do so we should be proud of ourselves every day.

I think what sets me apart is being a mixed race actor, there’s still not a lot of us out there and I think it gives me kind of a unique view on the world. I also think that my brand of work that I like is kind of unique I’m super inspired by people like Audra McDonald when it comes to singing and I tend to veer on the classical/golden age, musical theater side musically. I also think I’ve been through some hard things in my life, and that does inform my acting and what kind of work I do.

What are your plans for the future?
Continue acting, singing and auditioning! I plan on constantly working on my craft and package. Hopefully you will see me on a screen near you soon!
