Today we’d like to introduce you to Raven Porter.
Hi Raven, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story began with a desire to create something I felt was missing, a space where women could gather intentionally, form meaningful connections, and experience community in a way that felt both elevated and genuine.
As I moved through different seasons of my own life, I became increasingly intentional about the relationships I cultivated, the environments I placed myself in, and the experiences I chose to make room for. I began to recognize that there were many women seeking the same thing a sense of community that felt thoughtful, inspiring, and rooted in genuine connection.
That realization became the foundation for Discernment Society.
I envisioned a community for women who appreciate beautiful experiences, but who are equally drawn to substance, intentionality, and meaningful relationships. I wanted to create something beyond traditional networking: intimate gatherings where women could discover new experiences, cultivate friendships, and simply enjoy being in the company of other women who are equally intentional about how they live and who they surround themselves with.
What began as an idea has continued to evolve into a lifestyle and community brand. Through Discernment Society, I curate intimate social gatherings, wellness experiences, and thoughtfully designed events, each centered around the art of gathering well.
That vision has also expanded into The Bloom Atelier by Discernment Society, a refined floral experience created for private gatherings and special occasions. I’m also preparing to release my book, DISCERNMENT, which explores many of the principles that inspired the Society itself, standards, boundaries, intuition, self-respect, selectivity, and the quiet confidence that comes from knowing what is aligned with you.
I’m still building and allowing the vision to evolve, but everything I create is connected by the same philosophy: a beautiful life is not simply about how it looks, but how intentionally it is chosen.
For me, Discernment Society is an expression of that belief, a space for women to gather beautifully, connect meaningfully, and live with intention.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but I think that has made the journey much more meaningful.
One of the greatest challenges has been learning how to build something from a vision while simultaneously figuring out what that vision is meant to become. When you are creating something from the ground up, there isn’t always a blueprint. There have been moments of trial and error, unexpected expenses, logistical challenges, partnerships that didn’t unfold as anticipated, and experiences that required me to adjust quickly while still maintaining the standard I wanted for the brand.
I’ve also had to learn that discernment is just as important in business as it is in life. Not every opportunity is the right opportunity, not every collaboration is aligned, and growth doesn’t always mean saying yes to more. Sometimes it means becoming more selective and being willing to protect the integrity of what you are building, even when that requires taking the longer route.
There have certainly been moments where things didn’t go according to plan, but those experiences have taught me to be resourceful, adaptable, and confident in my own decision-making. They have also helped me become much clearer about what Discernment Society represents and the experience I want women to have when they encounter the brand.
I’m learning to appreciate the process rather than rushing toward a particular destination. Every challenge has refined the vision in some way, and I think there is something beautiful about building a brand that continues to evolve as I do.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Discernment Society ?
Discernment Society is a Los Angeles-based women’s social and lifestyle community built around intentional connection, elevated experiences, and the art of gathering well. At its core, the Society was created for women who desire meaningful community and thoughtfully curated experiences that introduce them to new people, places, and ways of enjoying life.
We specialize in intimate gatherings that feel personal, considered, and beautifully executed. Our experiences range from wellness and movement to dining, floral experiences, and intimate social gatherings. While the aesthetic is an important part of the brand, the intention behind each experience matters just as much. I want women to leave having experienced something beautiful, but also having made a new connection, discovered something new, or simply given themselves permission to enjoy a thoughtfully curated moment.
What sets Discernment Society apart is the level of intention behind everything we create. I’m very particular about the details, from the environment and partnerships to the guest experience and overall presentation. I never want an event to feel like something was simply put together for the sake of hosting. There should be a feeling behind it. Every detail should contribute to the experience.
The brand has also expanded into The Bloom Atelier by Discernment Society, our floral experience that brings an interactive and elevated flower bar to private events, brand activations, wellness gatherings, and special occasions. It has been exciting to see something that initially began as an element of our own events develop into an offering that can now become part of someone else’s experience.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud that Discernment Society has developed an identity that feels distinct and authentic to what I originally envisioned. There is a quiet elegance to the brand, but it isn’t about exclusivity for the sake of exclusivity. It is about being intentional with our time, our relationships, the spaces we enter, and the experiences we choose.
More than anything, I want readers to know that Discernment Society is about community with intention. We are continuing to grow, explore new experiences, collaborate with thoughtful brands and businesses, and create spaces where women can gather beautifully and connect meaningfully. I want every woman who encounters the Society to feel that she has discovered something special and that there is a place for her within it.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I would say intentionality. I’m very thoughtful about what I create, who I align with, and how I want people to feel when they experience something I’ve built. I don’t believe in doing things simply because they are popular or because everyone else is doing them. There has to be purpose behind it.
I also think discernment has played an important role. Knowing when to say yes, when to say no, when to pivot, and when to trust my own vision has been essential. I’ve learned that not every opportunity is meant for me, and sometimes protecting the integrity of what you’re building is more valuable than growing quickly.
Ultimately, I think my success comes from being willing to trust my vision while remaining open to learning and evolving. I care deeply about the details, the experience, and creating something that feels genuine. That combination of intentionality, discernment, and consistency continues to guide how I build both personally and professionally.
