Today we’d like to introduce you to Boris Ackerman.

Hi Boris, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My fascination with plastic surgery began early in my medical education, drawn to the unique intersection of artistry, anatomy, and surgical precision. After completing my plastic surgery residency, I was recruited to practice alongside two highly regarded plastic surgeons—one in Beverly Hills and another in Newport Beach. After several years working between both practices, I realized that Newport Beach was where I wanted to build my career and establish my long-term home.
Facial rejuvenation surgery has remained a particular passion throughout my career. Early on, I traveled extensively to study with and learn from leading surgeons around the world, seeking to understand the techniques and principles that produced the most natural and enduring results. Over time, I developed and refined my own approach to facial rejuvenation, ultimately establishing a Center of Excellence for Facial Rejuvenation Surgery in Newport Beach.
Today, I am recognized for my expertise in Deep Plane Facelift surgery, with patients traveling from across the country and around the world to seek my care. I am a published author and recognized authority in Deep Plane Facelift surgery, and I am frequently invited to present my techniques and experience at national and international medical conferences.
As Co-Director of an Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship, I also have the privilege of teaching advanced facial rejuvenation techniques to the next generation of plastic surgeons. Sharing knowledge, advancing surgical education, and contributing to the continued evolution of our specialty are important parts of my professional mission. Outside of medicine, my wife and I are actively involved in organizations that support children with special needs, as well as greyhound rescue organizations. These commitments allow us to give back to causes that are deeply meaningful to our family.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to success is rarely without its challenges. Early in my career, one of the greatest challenges was learning how to balance the many responsibilities that come with building a successful practice—managing the business, leading a team, and maintaining a demanding surgical schedule.
Over time, I learned an important lesson: excellence requires knowing when to delegate. By entrusting the business and administrative responsibilities to capable and trusted managers, I was able to focus my energy where it matters most—on my patients and on achieving the highest level of surgical results.
That shift allowed me to concentrate fully on my craft: continuously refining my techniques, advancing my expertise, and delivering natural, beautiful outcomes for every patient.

We’ve been impressed with Boris M. Ackerman, MD, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Boris M. Ackerman, MD – Newport Beach Laser and Plastic Surgery Center is a facial rejuvenation practice located in Newport Beach, California. I specialize in advanced facial rejuvenation surgery, with a particular focus on the Deep Plane Facelift, as well as eyelid surgery, brow lifts, lip lifts, facial fat grafting, and laser resurfacing.
In addition to caring for patients, I teach advanced facelift techniques to plastic surgeons through the Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship, lecture at national and international conferences, and have published peer-reviewed research on Deep Plane Facelift surgery. The philosophy behind my practice is simple: natural results come first. The goal is never to change how someone looks, but to restore a more refreshed, youthful version of themselves. I am most proud that my practice has become recognized not only for surgical excellence, but also for compassionate, individualized patient care. I want every patient to feel confident that they are receiving highly specialized treatment from a team dedicated to delivering exceptional results and an outstanding experience from consultation through recovery.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
People often know me as a plastic surgeon, educator, and Deep Plane Facelift specialist, but what many don’t realize is that my work is driven just as much by artistry as it is by medicine. Every facelift is highly individualized—I spend a great deal of time studying each patient’s unique facial anatomy and designing a surgical plan that restores natural harmony rather than simply making someone look younger.
Outside of the office, I am also passionate about giving back to my community, and helping communities in need both locally and around the world. I feel incredibly fortunate to do work that I love, and I believe success carries a responsibility to make a positive impact beyond the operating room. Whether through charitable initiatives or supporting meaningful causes, helping others is something that is deeply important to me. Those experiences have reinforced the values that guide my practice every day: compassion, patience, and treating every patient with the same level of care and respect I would want for my own family.
