Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandro Aceves Hernandez.
Hi Alejandro, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Ever since I was little, I knew I wanted to own my own business. Every Friday night before bed, I would watch Shark Tank and see entrepreneurs pitch their ideas. Some of the products were brilliant while others were a little bit ridiculous, but I was still fascinated by the fact that someone could take an idea from nothing and turn it into something real. That felt like pure magic to me. It still does.
The businesses that inspired me most weren’t just selling products, but were trying to make the world a little better. Whether they donated a portion of every sale, supported a cause, or solved an important problem, they proved that a business could have a purpose beyond profit.
After graduating with a business degree, I didn’t immediately land my dream job. A friend suggested I try teaching while I figured out my next step. What I expected to be temporary became something I genuinely enjoyed. Around the same time, I also became an uncle and both experiences gave me a new appreciation for how vulnerable children are and how important it is that we protect them.
During that period, I was reading The Body Keeps the Score when I came across the story of a young girl who would dissociate and imagine herself up in the clouds whenever she experienced abuse. It was the only way she knew how to survive. That story stayed with me. I began researching child abuse and was shocked by how widespread it is and how many children experience trauma in silence.
I kept asking myself the same question: How can something so common be talked about so little. That question became the foundation of The Cloud Project.
I started The Cloud Project to create comforting products that spark conversations around childhood trauma while helping fund organizations that protect vulnerable children. Today, 15% of every purchase supports nonprofits working to keep children safe. My hope is that every product serves as a small reminder that brighter days are possible and that together, we can help create them. Looking back, it’s incredible to think that the dream I had while watching Shark Tank has grown into a business dedicated to creating comfort, inspiring hope, and helping protect vulnerable children.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Like many entrepreneurs, one of the biggest challenges has been learning to embrace uncertainty. I’ve learned that sometimes it’s okay not to know everything. Sometimes the only way to learn is by making mistakes. When you start a business, there isn’t exactly a roadmap telling you what to do next. Every decision from designing and launching products, building and maintaining a website, marketing your brand, and pitching your products, comes with trial and error.
Building a mission-driven business has also been challenging because I’m asking people to engage with a topic that many find difficult to talk about. Childhood trauma isn’t an easy conversation and there have been moments where I wondered if people would understand what I was trying to build. Over time, though, I’ve realized that those conversations are exactly why The Cloud Project matters.
Another challenge has been balancing entrepreneurship with my work and family. Many evenings and weekends have been spent designing products, answering emails, packing orders, and learning skills I never imagined I’d need. I’ve had to wear many hats: product developer, designer, photographer, social media manager, customer service representative, e-commerce specialist, marketer, and more. It’s hard not to feel the weight of all those hats on your head, knowing that if one slips off, the rest just might follow.
Throughout it all, I’ve learned that consistency pays off. If you want to build something meaningful, you have to keep putting in the work. Keep showing up. Keep making mistakes. Keep learning. Keep believing, even when it feels like no one else does. Sure, a big breakthrough would be nice, but that isn’t the reality for most entrepreneurs. Real progress usually comes from taking one small step forward every day.
Not only has all these obstacles along the road made The Cloud Project stronger, but it has made me stronger as well.
As you know, we’re big fans of The Cloud Project. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The Cloud Project is a mission-driven lifestyle brand that creates comforting products designed to inspire hope while helping protect vulnerable children. Our collection includes plushies, bag charms, apparel, tote bags, keychains, stickers, and other thoughtfully designed products that serve as small reminders that brighter days are always possible.
What sets The Cloud Project apart is that every product has a purpose beyond itself. Rather than simply creating products people can use or wear, we’re building a movement centered around compassion, hope, and child advocacy. Every design is inspired by the belief that even the smallest reminder can make someone’s day a little brighter and encourage meaningful conversations around childhood trauma and healing.
We’re also committed to making a tangible impact. Today, 15% of every purchase supports nonprofits working to keep children safe because we believe businesses have a responsibility to give back to the communities and causes they care about.
One thing I’m especially proud of is that every product has been thoughtfully developed from the ground up. From sketching ideas and working with manufacturers to designing packaging and building our online presence, every detail has been created with intention. Seeing people connect with the mission and carry a little piece of hope with them is what makes all of the hard work worthwhile.
At its heart, The Cloud Project is about reminding people that no matter how dark the skies may seem, brighter days are possible and that together, we can help create them.
What are your plans for the future?
Looking ahead, my biggest goal is to continue growing The Cloud Project into a nationally recognized brand that makes a real difference in children’s lives. I want to expand our collection of comforting products, partner with more retailers across the country, and increase the amount we’re able to donate to organizations working to protect vulnerable children. Every new product is another opportunity to raise awareness and help fund important work.
Beyond growing the business, I hope The Cloud Project becomes something people immediately associate with hope, comfort, and compassion. If someone sees one of our cloud products and it reminds them that brighter days are possible, or if it helps start an important conversation about childhood trauma, then we’ve accomplished something meaningful.
One day, I’d love for The Cloud Project to become a household brand known not just for the products we create, but for the impact we make. My dream is that years from now we’ll be able to look back and know that together, with our customers and partners, we’ve helped protect countless children and brought a little more hope into the world. I truly believe we’re just getting started.
