Hidden Gems: Meet Jennifer Vancheri-Porter of JJ Sporthorses USA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Vancheri-Porter.

Hi Jennifer, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My career has been built around two passions: helping people manage risk and developing both horses and riders to reach their full potential.

For more than 20 years, I have worked in the insurance industry, specializing in complex risk management and insurance solutions for high net worth clients. Throughout my career, I have focused on building trusted relationships, solving problems, and helping clients protect what matters most to them. These experiences have strengthened my ability to lead teams, manage complex situations, and provide exceptional service.

At the same time, I have spent more than 30 years in the equestrian industry as a rider, trainer, competitor, and business owner. I am the owner and head trainer of JJ Sporthorses USA, a boutique hunter jumper program based in Las Vegas. Alongside my husband, I have built a highly personalized program that focuses on biomechanics, horse welfare, rider development, and exceptional client care.

Throughout my equestrian career, I have trained and competed extensively throughout California and the West Coast, including many of the region’s premier horse shows and venues. I have developed young horses, produced hunters and jumpers, competed through the Grand Prix level, and successfully guided riders from their first horse shows to national competition. These experiences have allowed me to build strong relationships within the equestrian community while gaining firsthand knowledge of the challenges facing horse owners, trainers, and equine businesses.

In addition to training and competition, I have invested heavily in equine wellness, rehabilitation, and performance programs. Our facility incorporates advanced therapies, nutritional programs, and individualized care plans designed to help horses perform at their highest level while maintaining long term soundness and wellbeing.

Building and operating a successful equestrian business while maintaining a full time corporate insurance career has taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of servant leadership. Whether I am advising clients, mentoring riders, managing teams, or growing a business, I believe in accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Today, I am excited to continue combining my experience in insurance, agriculture, and the equine industry to create meaningful value for clients, colleagues, and the organizations I serve. My unique background allows me to understand both the business and personal side of risk, relationships, and leadership.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has not been a smooth road, and many of the challenges I have faced have ultimately become my greatest strengths.

One of my biggest obstacles has been balancing multiple demanding roles simultaneously. Throughout my career, I have built and operated a successful equestrian business while maintaining a full-time corporate career in the insurance industry, all while raising a family. Learning how to effectively manage competing priorities, long hours, and significant responsibilities has required discipline, resilience, and a strong commitment to my goals.

Building JJ Sporthorses USA also came with its own challenges. Growing a boutique equestrian business in Las Vegas, while competing against larger and more established programs in California and on the West Coast, required creativity, persistence, and a willingness to do things differently. We invested heavily in horse welfare, rehabilitation, rider education, and individualized care because we believed those investments create long-term success.

The equestrian industry itself can be highly competitive and unpredictable. Market fluctuations, economic changes, horse injuries, client expectations, and the realities of operating a small business all present unique challenges. Learning to adapt, make difficult decisions, and continue moving forward has strengthened my leadership abilities and problem solving skills.

Personally, balancing family responsibilities while pursuing ambitious professional goals has taught me the importance of perseverance and maintaining perspective. Every challenge has reinforced my belief that setbacks are opportunities to learn, improve, and grow.

These experiences have shaped me into a resilient leader who is comfortable navigating change, managing complex situations, and finding solutions even during difficult circumstances. They have taught me that success is rarely a straight path, but rather the result of hard work, adaptability, and the willingness to continue moving forward.

JJ Sporthorses USA is a boutique hunter jumper training and sales program based in Las Vegas, Nevada. Alongside my husband, I built the business with the goal of creating a highly personalized program that prioritizes horse welfare, rider development, and long term success.

What sets our program apart is our commitment to individualized care. We intentionally maintain a smaller program so that every horse and rider receives the attention they deserve. We believe that successful performance horses are created through proper training, conditioning, nutrition, and rehabilitation, not simply by increasing workloads.

Our program focuses on developing hunters, jumpers, and equitation riders while also producing young horses for the sport. Throughout my career, I have trained and competed extensively throughout California and the West Coast, competing at many of the region’s top venues and developing horses and riders from the local level through national competition.

One of the areas I am most proud of is our investment in equine wellness and performance. We have incorporated advanced rehabilitation and conditioning technologies, including therapeutic modalities, treadmill conditioning, recovery programs, and individualized nutritional support. These investments reflect our belief that horse welfare and performance go hand in hand.

As a female business owner in a highly competitive industry, building JJ Sporthorses USA has required resilience, adaptability, and a commitment to doing things differently. We have created a boutique, relationship driven program that emphasizes communication, education, and exceptional service for both horses and their owners.

Ultimately, our mission is simple: to develop successful riders, happy horses, and lasting partnerships while maintaining the highest standards of horsemanship, care, and professionalism.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was always driven, independent, and extremely determined. From a young age, I developed a strong work ethic and a competitive mindset. I was the type of person who set goals early and worked relentlessly to achieve them.

I was also neurodivergent, although at the time I did not always have the language or understanding to describe it. I often learned differently than my peers, processed information in my own way, and sometimes found traditional environments challenging. Those experiences taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of finding approaches that worked for me rather than trying to fit into a single mold.

Horses became a major part of my life at an early age and quickly taught me responsibility, discipline, and perseverance. The barn became a place where I could focus, learn, and thrive. Much of my childhood and teenage years revolved around riding, caring for horses, and spending time with animals. The equestrian world taught me that success comes from consistency, patience, and hard work.

I have always been naturally curious and eager to learn. Whether it was understanding horses, improving my riding, building a business, or advancing my professional career, I have consistently sought opportunities for growth and improvement.

Looking back, being neurodivergent helped shape many of my strengths. It taught me to think creatively, solve problems from different perspectives, and approach challenges with persistence. Combined with my competitive nature and strong work ethic, these experiences helped me build both a successful career in insurance and a thriving equestrian business.

Today, I would describe myself as resilient, hardworking, compassionate, and determined. The lessons I learned growing up continue to influence how I lead, solve problems, and support others both professionally and personally.
