Today we’d like to introduce you to Tori + Tia Meskin + Miller.
Hi Tori + Tia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Like any good modern love story, we met online! Tia and Tori have each been NICU nurses for over a decade and independently developed passions for educating and supporting newer generations of nurses. NICUity was conceived in 2022 when we realized we were both seeing the same thing in our individual online communities. Nurses were reaching out directly to us for advice, guidance, and support instead of relying solely on resources from their own units. It revealed both a gap in traditional education and a strong desire from newer nurses for more accessible, engaging, and supportive learning opportunities.
After connecting through Instagram and discovering how aligned our visions were, NICUity was born.
We spent about a year developing the brand, creating content, and collaborating with contributors who shared our mission. From the beginning, we wanted to make NICU education more engaging and accessible for younger audiences while still remaining evidence-based and clinically relevant. Our goal was to empower NICU professionals through comprehensive support, education, and innovation, helping build the expertise and confidence needed to provide exceptional care to NICU patients and their families.
Fast forward to 2026, and we have fostered a growing community of nearly 20,000 NICU professionals and supporters. We continue to expand our educational offerings, develop new courses and resources, and evolve alongside the needs of the NICU community. What started as two nurses connecting online has grown into a mission-driven platform centered on education, connection, and compassionate care.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road, although we have learned so much through the challenges. Running a business is very different from working at the bedside as a NICU nurse, and there were a lot of growing pains in the early stages. There was plenty of Googling, trial and error, and learning as we went.
One of our first major hurdles was realizing that our original business name was trademarked, which forced us to completely go back to the drawing board. At the time it felt overwhelming, but it ultimately led us to NICUity, a name we genuinely love and feel represents our mission perfectly.
As we grew, we had to quickly learn the operational side of running a business. We navigated building and managing a team, developing peer-reviewed educational content, offering accredited continuing education hours, and understanding the legal and financial responsibilities that come with operating an online business. Because we serve professionals across different regions, we even found ourselves learning about filing taxes in multiple jurisdictions. Tia spent more than a few late nights convinced she was accidentally committing tax fraud and was going to end up in jail over a spreadsheet mistake.
Another challenge was learning how to work together across opposite coasts and busy schedules while balancing full lives outside of the business. Over time, we really learned each other’s strengths and built a partnership that works incredibly well. Tori is the creative force behind much of the brand vision and content, while Tia is the operational glue that keeps everything moving forward. Together, we are the ultimate power couple.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
NICUity fills a gap we first discovered through our experiences as content creators on social media, which puts us in a unique niche where we are both educators and creatives. We realized there was a huge need for NICU education that felt more approachable, engaging, and relevant to newer generations of nurses while still remaining evidence-based and clinically rigorous.
We are known for bringing a fresh, modern approach to NICU education and putting a fun NICUity spin on the dry whiteboard lectures many healthcare professionals are used to. We love transforming complex topics into content that feels engaging, visually creative, and easy to connect with.
What makes us most proud is knowing our work is reaching providers caring for tiny patients across the country, and even internationally. It is incredibly meaningful to know the education and support we create ultimately impacts babies and families during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.
We also pride ourselves on being deeply connected to our community. Because NICUity grew organically through social media, we are constantly listening to feedback and evolving our content in real time. That creative freedom allows us to move quickly, stay authentic, and create educational experiences that feel personal, supportive, and genuinely useful to the nurses we serve.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Los Angeles played a huge role in bringing NICUity to life. As a major creative hub, we were able to source so much of our business locally, from filming locations and production crews to photographers, contributors, and other collaborators who helped shape the brand in its early stages and today! Building a company rooted in education, creativity, and modern healthcare storytelling felt possible because of the incredible creative energy and entrepreneurial spirit that exists throughout LA.
For both of us, Los Angeles represents innovation, diversity, and connection, qualities that align closely with the mission behind NICUity. We love that the city encourages people to think outside the box and create things in fresh, authentic ways. That mindset heavily influenced how we approached NICU education and helped us build content that feels more engaging, modern, and community-driven.
That said, as an East Coast transplant, Tia still firmly believes nobody in Los Angeles knows how to drive.
Even though we operate across opposite coasts, Los Angeles became a creative heartbeat for NICUity and helped transform what started as an online connection between two NICU nurses into a growing educational platform and community.
