Meet Anthony Floyd of Brooklyn, NY

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Floyd.

Hi Anthony, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Yes! Before I started my journey as photographer, I was a self-taught music producer for about 5 years, starting in 2019, based in a small town in Ohio. I’ve always been a creative, dabbling into all sorts of things. “A jack of all trades” some would say.

In this digital age of social media I knew how important it was to become somewhat of an online figure in order to grow my music. So in September of 2023 I decided to buy a camera to make content. It wasn’t the best camera, but I started playing around with it and realized it takes good photos. I would randomly take photos of my friends and family for practice. Then in December of 2023 My sister and I set a shoot for her birthday in my old room in my childhood home. I knew nothing about professional photography, lighting, or editing at the time. But as a I was going through the images, starting to edit and color grade, I seen that I had something special.

I started to fall in love with the process. I did self portraits and some free shoots around my area to build my portfolio. At that point I felt I was good enough at photography on top of music production to move to the big city of New York. So I would pace around my room, frantically! Planning and contemplating how I would make this move happen. I did not have a lot of money in the bank, maybe 4-5k but I knew with my grit and my talent I could make this work.

March of 2023, 3 months after picking up my first camera I booked an AirBnb and moved to NYC. I stayed in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn for 2 months before finding my place with 3 other roommates in Bushwick. Very typical for an Ohio transplants to move to Bushwick haha. I got my first job in NYC as a door-to-door salesman, it was not easy but I attribute a lot my confidence to that experience, and the skills I still use to this day for my photography business. I quick that job after only a month and got another job as a car rental agent at Avis Car Rental. I worked there for a bout a year. While working there I would make TikToks about any and everything while on the clock.

In July of 2025 I made a TikTok at work about my photography, it only got about 3k views at the time, but that was the video that changed everything for me. So many people were reaching out to me wanting to work with me and actually pay me for my work for the first time. I started booking clients back to back and luckily I already had a website and a funnel to be able to easily accept clients. I’m an avid believer of “staying ready so you don’t have to get ready”. Fast-forward about 2 months later in September of 2025, I’d made more money in 6 days than I made in an entire month at Avis, so it was only right that I quit and focus all my time on photography so I could scale.

From there I’ve just been taking clients and growing my brand. And now in 2026, I’ve had the opportunity the shoot at the Met Gala and moved to Paris, France to take my talents globally. It’s been a long journey as a creative starting in 2019, but now I think I finally feel like all of the blood, sweat, and tears put into this are paying off.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I feel it has been as smooth as it could be for a small town boy with little to no money moving to the biggest city in America. I’ve been through the typical struggles of almost being homeless because of insane rent prices, business having some slow moments, and people wanting free labor.

But I’m someone who has the self-worth and believes in myself wholeheartedly. to never take no for an answer. I don’t think I’d be here today If I didn’t have this mindset.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a fashion photographer. I work with brands and individuals helping them create a captivating & cohesive visual identity with sublime imagery.

My specialty, I’d say would be the my the way I use lighting to create depth and enhance the emotion of my subjects. Light has become one of my absolute favorite things to play with and master. Also, editing & color grading style; It’s a bit of a secret but I’m sure someone who uses Lightroom could figure it out haha.

I’d say I’m know for the way I pose my clients and models as a movement director. My signature style is very vintage, moody, solemn, avant-garde, and classic. my work is pretty streamlined and simple. But that’s done intentionally to convey the cliché message of “less is more”, And that you don’t need fancy sets and props to create beautifully captivating work.

I think what sets me apart from others is my work overall but also the confidence I have in myself and my work. I know I’m going to be one the most important photographers to ever walk this earth.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I think most people believe that I went to school for photography or I’ve been doing this way longer than I have. But It’s only been 2.5 years and I’m self-taught in everything.
