Conversations with Charles “Chuck” Dickson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles “Chuck” Dickson.

Hi Charles “Chuck”, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a #1-Selling, Multi-Platinum, 2x Grammy-Nominated Audio Engineer, Music Producer, Songwriter and Entrepreneur. He graduated with honors from the Los Angeles Recording School in Hollywood, Ca. After graduating, with honors, Charles went on to become an intern for Music Producer, Harmony Samuels and his independent Record Label BOE Music Group. While interning, after 2 years Charles was offered a job with BOE, and almost 8 years later he worked his way from Lead Recording Engineer to Studio Manager, and then on to Head of A&R. This is where all of the experience and lessons were leading to, finally a chance to make a difference.

As an A&R, Charles was involved in a plethora of releases from artists such as Janet Jackson, Coco Jones, Go Go Morrow, MAJOR., and many more. With the rise of Covid in 2020, Charles stepped away from BOE to peruse his own dreams. Having experienced seeing other’s workflows and use of resources, he was prepared to begin building his own music publishing company, Around The Block Music Publishing.

Now years later, Chuck has teamed up with #1 selling, multi-platinum producer, artist, and activist, Andrew Beckner and his label, Culture Jam™ Co. to provide high-quality recording studios and experiences. With CJCO (for short) Chuck is now mentoring under-served youth from the San Fernando Valley alongside Andrew and Hopeless Music Academy, organized by Rheanna Lauren. With this partnership, we are now teaching students music production, instrumentation, engineering, songwriting and much more. Along with the teaching, Chuck has also teamed up with his longtime friend MAJOR. and his foundation MAJOR.HOPE, Inc. to bless the Hollywood community with essentials, in the efforts of spreading Love and Hope to the people.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, I don’t believe in smooth roads, haven’t driven one yet. I’ve just learned to enjoy the many challenges of following my Purpose. I try to stay in a constant state of learning and absorbing new information. Having information helps when situations get tricky. As an Entrepreneur and a creative, there is a balance I try to maintain between the joys of creating, and the organization and aptitude of a businessman. While many concepts seem paradoxical, with the right perspective, mountains can be moved with one idea.

One of the things that help me the most is a useful network of people, who genuinely want to see me win. Having an ear to vent to, and a partner in any boardroom makes tough decisions much easier to navigate. Teamed up with Andrew and CJCO has been a blessing and a great learning experience. The work we are doing is proven to be inspiring and beneficial.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an Audio Engineer above all, that’s my passion. I specialize in services such as music recording, mixing, mastering, editing, and production. Throughout the years I’ve developed the skill of vocal producing. In addition to being an audio engineer, I also have my own music publishing company, Around The Block Music Publishing Co. in which I have deals with music producers from around the United States encouraging collaborations and assisting with the facilitation of business such as publishing spilts, music rights, music licensing and more.

I am most proud of my contributions to the multitude of projects and artist’s careers I’ve been blessed to be apart of. Throughout my career I have played many roles in order to get the job done. Roles such as personal assistant, project manager, intern hiring manager, lighting technician for a live show, and much more.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I am most happy when I am able to play a pivotal role in someone’s life. The reason for this is, I’ve had people help me along my journey for little to no reason at all, they just felt compelled to assist me. Those small gestures have set a precedent for me to find happiness in doing the same. When I am able to be the initiator of positive change in someone’s life it fills me with joy. This is how I feed my soul, by helping others.
