Bexx Jones of NOHO on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Bexx Jones shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Bexx, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Coming up with event theme designs, ideas, and creative menus for my clients. I can spend hours researching and coming up with design colors, ideas, and recipes. This is my favorite part of my job.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Bexx—the founder and creative force behind Bexx Secret Garden, a boutique special events venue tucked into the NOHO Arts District of Los Angeles. For over a decade, I’ve been designing and hosting intimate weddings and celebrations where food, atmosphere, and personal connection matter just as much as the details.

What makes my work a little different is that I wear many hats by choice. I’m not only the venue owner, but also the chef, caterer, event planner, designer, and gardener behind every experience. From crafting custom menus and signature recipes to shaping the flow and feel of each event, everything is intentionally created in-house and tailored to the people celebrating.

Before this chapter, I was a professional singer and performer, which still influences how I approach events—there’s always a sense of rhythm, storytelling, and emotion woven into what we do. Lately, I’m expanding that creativity through Bexx’s Celebrations and Creative Cuisine, where I share recipes, entertaining tips, urban gardening inspiration, and behind-the-scenes looks at how events come together from concept to celebration.

At the heart of it all, my work is about creating relaxed, meaningful gatherings that feel personal, warm, and thoughtfully curated—never cookie-cutter, always intentional.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My husband. He saw more in me than I ever saw or was ever led to believe I could be. He is my biggest supporter.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There was a time when I almost gave up—not because I lacked ambition or ideas, but because I was slowly disappearing inside a life that no longer fit. I was married to someone who needed control, and over time, that kind of relationship quietly drains your confidence, your energy, and your sense of self. I kept telling myself to hold it together, to be patient, to make it work.

At the same time, I was doing everything to stay afloat—working full-time during the day and singing six nights a week, often six hours a night. On paper, I looked driven and unstoppable. In reality, I was exhausted and stretched thin, trying to survive while holding onto the parts of myself that mattered most.

Leaving wasn’t dramatic or sudden. It was a slow realization that staying was costing me more than leaving ever would. The divorce forced me to choose myself—my voice, my independence, my future—at a time when I felt completely worn down. It wasn’t easy, but it was necessary.

That decision changed everything. It gave me my creative freedom back. It reminded me that strength doesn’t always look loud or fearless—sometimes it looks like walking away, starting over, and trusting yourself again. That chapter shaped how I live and work now, with more intention, more softness, and a deep respect for personal freedom and self-worth.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
What you see is genuine. I lead with intention, creativity, and care, and I put real thought into everything I create. Life doesn’t have to be heavy to be meaningful, and professionalism doesn’t have to be stiff. For me, the magic lives right in that balance.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
My heart and soul, along with my sassiness and belief in myself. That’s what has gotten me where I am and how I survived cancer, along with all of the obstacles
