Uce Lee of Downtown L.A. on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Uce Lee shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Uce, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Being a father, spending time with my kids is my favorite thing to do. I don’t think I even knew what true joy was until I had a family.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Uce Lee also known as Poly Boy. I’m a multi platinum selling music producer and co-owner/ co-founder of So Way out, a music label and lifestyle brand. We have been releasing music with los Angeles area artist since 2012 starting with our first artist G Perico. Our current artists Westside Webb and Yungc Joke released albums last year and will be releasing new music in 2026. I also release music under the label as a producer, collaborating with artists such as Big Sad 1900, YeloHill, Vince staples, SchoolBoy Q and more.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My Dad. My pops was the hardest worker I ever knew. He worked in construction, long hard days, he woke up at 5am six days a week and worked his butt off to provide for his family. Watching him I learned that nothing comes easy and you have to put in the time to accomplish what you want.

Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
One time that comes to mind is when I ran into Bryan Michael Cox in Miami. He was one of my favorite producers growing up. He had no idea who I was when I approached him, but he took the time to stop and talk with me, give me some advice, and seemed genuinely happy for me when I shared a recent accomplishment with him. I’ll never forget how cool he was. Shout out to B Cox!

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My family and being a father. In my circle of friends family is extremely important to us and we all take pride in being great fathers to our children. You can’t be part of So Way Out if your a dead beat daddy lol

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I knew what was truly important. That in this music industry I was different because I never chased the material things most do, I never compromised my morals, integrity, honor or manhood for anything. And that I couldn’t care less about what anybody thinks!
