Selena O’Sullivan shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Selena, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about your customers?
Hey great question! One thing I’ve learned about fans of wrestling in particular, is that if they like you, they are the most LOYAL and supporting fan base ever. They are truly ride-or-die for the art!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Selena O’Sullivan, an actress and pro wrestler!
I’ve always wanted to be in action films, since watching Tomb Raider and Charlie’s Angels as a kid. Those were the women who inspired me to do what I do.
Now I am in WOW Women of Wrestling, an All Women’s Wrestling promotion that airs on Paramount and CBS.
I am currently also working on an upcoming independent sci-fi series, which further shows off badass women in the galaxy 😉
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I was always athletic, and often the fastest runner of my grade in my small hometown in rural Australia. I would always test myself against boys, against their speed, strength and fearlessness and found I could often keep up.
Also, taking karate classes as a kid was definitely an early memory as a source of power for me, it made me feel like I could fight anyone and win!
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I was in Italy during the time covid hit, and I thought that might be it – that I would never be able to go back to LA (being an artist on an O1 visa). My visa would run out and I wouldn’t have enough credits to be able to work in town again.
But instead of giving up, I trusted in life to accept a brand new experience. I learned the Italian language and a new culture and community that I never would have if not for this experience. It changed my life.
Then when I was able to get back to the US, I came into work with a confidence and point of view I didn’t have before!
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
To be honest, I don’t think I’ve had my absolute dream role yet. The gritty, badass fighter I always looked up to as a kid. I’m hoping this will come to me if I keep visualizing it enough – or better yet, I finally push myself to write and create it myself!
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That’s a tough one. I’ll specify this to if I ever retire/leave pro-wrestling.
I hope people will remember that even though I was a mean wrestling heel, I was a good worker. That’s really the most you can hope for in wrestling. I hope that while I showed up being the bad guy, the misunderstood one who had a chip on her shoulder, but at the same time was a fun person to perform with. In the end, those are the moments and memories that will always matter most to me!
