Exploring Life & Business with Lauren Bartholomeusz of KeraFactor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Bartholomeusz.

Hi Lauren, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I originally went to college with the intention of becoming a dermatologist and studied biology, business, and finance at Florida International University. While my career ultimately took a different direction, my interest in science and medicine never left me.

After college, I spent nearly a decade in the wine and spirits industry in California, working in sales, brand development, and distributor management. That experience taught me how to build brands, manage complex distribution networks, and bring products to market in competitive industries.

My path into the aesthetics and hair health space began when my husband, James, who has a background in biotechnology and aesthetic laser technology, identified a gap in the market for science-driven solutions for hair and scalp health. His work developing growth factor technology inspired the creation of KeraFactor. When the COVID-19 pandemic shifted many industries, it gave me the opportunity to step in and help build the company.

Today I serve as Chief Commercial Officer of KeraFactor, where I lead global practice development, commercial strategy, and international expansion. I work closely with dermatologists, plastic surgeons, and aesthetic providers around the world to bring science-driven solutions for hair and scalp health to their patients.

In many ways, it feels like my career came full circle. While I didn’t become a dermatologist, I now have the privilege of working alongside leading physicians every day, helping advance innovation in scalp health and hair rejuvenation while building a brand dedicated to restoring confidence through healthier hair.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like most entrepreneurial journeys, it definitely has not been a completely smooth road. Building a company in the medical aesthetics and hair health space comes with a unique set of challenges. One of the biggest hurdles early on was educating the market with a limited budget. Hair loss is an emotional and complex condition, and bringing a science-driven solution to physicians and patients requires a lot of clinical education, research, and trust building.

Another challenge was navigating global expansion while maintaining high standards for quality, manufacturing, and regulatory compliance. As we grew into new markets across North America, Europe, Australia and beyond, we had to ensure our products met the different regulatory frameworks while also supporting distributors and physicians with training and clinical data.

There are also the everyday realities of building a growing company. Scaling operations, managing supply chains, and balancing innovation with sustainable growth can be demanding. But those challenges have also been some of the most rewarding parts of the journey.

Each obstacle has pushed us to become more disciplined, more creative, and more focused on our mission. Seeing physicians adopt our technology and hearing stories from patients who regain confidence through healthier hair makes all of those challenges worthwhile.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
KeraFactor is a science-driven company focused on advancing scalp health and hair rejuvenation. Our mission is to provide physicians and patients with solutions that address hair loss at a biological level rather than simply masking the problem. We develop both in-office and at-home treatments that work together to support healthier hair growth and improve the overall scalp environment.

One of the things that sets KeraFactor apart is our focus on biotechnology and clinical collaboration. Our flagship professional treatment, KeraFactorMD, is used by dermatologists and aesthetic physicians in combination with devices such as lasers or microneedling to help with absorption. We also offer complementary home care products and LLLT devices that help patients maintain results between treatments.

What makes our approach unique is that we look at hair loss through the lens of scalp biology. The scalp is living tissue, and healthy follicles depend on a supportive microenvironment. Our formulations include a combination of biomimetic growth factors, proteins, and bioactive ingredients designed to support follicle health and encourage stronger, fuller-looking hair over time.

From a brand perspective, what I am most proud of is the trust we have built with physicians and patients around the world. Our products are used in dermatology and aesthetic practices across North America, Europe, Australia, and other international markets, and we continue to collaborate with leading clinicians on research and treatment protocols.

Ultimately, what we want readers to know is that hair loss is incredibly common, but it is also an area where innovation is happening quickly. Our goal at KeraFactor is to bridge the gap between science and real-world results, giving both physicians and patients tools that are thoughtful, clinically informed, and designed to support long-term hair and scalp health.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was naturally curious and very driven. I was always interested in science and the human body, which is what initially led me to pursue a pre-med path in college. At the same time, I also had a strong entrepreneurial side and loved understanding how businesses and brands were built.

I have always been someone who enjoys learning, resorceful and connecting the dots, whether it is science, business, or strategy. That curiosity has shaped much of my career. Even early on, I was drawn to industries where there was both innovation and creativity involved.

Personality-wise, I have always been very motivated and relationship-driven. I enjoy building things from the ground up and working with people who are passionate about what they do. Looking back, those traits have definitely influenced where I ended up today, working in a field that combines science, entrepreneurship, and collaboration with physicians and innovators around the world. The world is filled with endless opportunities!
