Community Highlights: Meet Elizabeth Clark of Looma Birth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Clark.

Hi Elizabeth, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My path into this work wasn’t originally a business plan, it was a calling that unfolded through my own experience with motherhood and the birth world.

After the birth of my first baby, I felt a deep pull toward supporting other families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. I trained as a doula and began attending births throughout Los Angeles and Orange County, eventually building a private practice that supported hundreds of families.

Over time I realized that what many families were really searching for wasn’t just a single provider, they were looking for education, community, and a team they could trust. Birth can feel overwhelming, especially with so much information and so many opinions online. Families wanted a place where they could ask questions, feel supported, and learn how to navigate the hospital system with confidence.

That vision became Looma Birth, which I founded to create a heart-centered, education-driven doula agency and community. Today Looma is a collective of passionate doulas serving families throughout Southern California. We support parents through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum with doula care, childbirth education, breastfeeding support, and community gatherings for new mamas.

One of the things that makes Looma unique is that we focus heavily on empowerment through education. Many of our clients are first-time parents planning hospital births who want to feel informed and confident about their options. Our goal is to help families feel calm, connected, and supported as they welcome their babies.

In addition to local services, we’ve also expanded into national education with our Empowered Hospital Birth classes and online programs, which allow families anywhere in the country to access the same supportive birth preparation we offer in person.

For me, the most meaningful part of this work is watching families grow in confidence. Birth is such a profound moment in a family’s story, and being able to support parents during that transition is incredibly humbling and rewarding.

What started as supporting one family at a time has grown into a vibrant community of doulas, educators, and families who believe birth should be an empowering and supported experience.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like most small businesses, it hasn’t always been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges was transitioning from working as a solo doula to building a sustainable business and team that could support many families at once. Learning how to grow while still protecting the heart and personal nature of this work was and is a big learning curve.

Another challenge is that many parents enter pregnancy carrying fear from negative birth stories or misinformation. A big part of our work is helping families feel informed and confident about their options within the hospital system.

Those challenges have ultimately shaped Looma into what it is today and pushed us to expand our education programs, build stronger systems, and grow a supportive community for families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

We’ve been impressed with Looma Birth, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Looma Birth is a heart-centered doula agency and education collective supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. We serve families throughout Southern California with birth and postpartum doulas, childbirth education, lactation support, and community-centered offerings like prenatal yoga and new mama circles.

Many of our clients are first-time parents planning hospital births who want to feel informed and confident about their options. We specialize in helping families navigate the hospital system while still honoring the physiological and emotional aspects of birth. Education is a huge part of what we do because when parents understand the process, they feel calmer, more empowered, and more connected to their experience.

In addition to our local work, we’ve expanded our reach through our Empowered Hospital Birth online program, which helps families anywhere prepare for a positive hospital birth with the same supportive, evidence-informed approach we teach in person.

What really sets Looma apart is the community we’ve built. It’s not just about hiring a doula for your birth, it’s about having a village around you during one of life’s biggest transitions.

At the heart of it all, our mission is simple: helping families feel calm, confident, and deeply supported as they welcome their babies into the world.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite memories is family dinners that would stretch for hours. There was always laughter, storytelling, and a feeling that everyone belonged. That sense of connection and community is something I still try to create in the spaces I build today.
