Story & Lesson Highlights with Yuexi Li of Los Angeles

Yuexi Li shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Yuexi, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Who are you learning from right now?
I’m learning from each project I work on, especially through collaboration with directors and post-production teams.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, my name is Yuexi Li. I work in post-production in the film industry, focusing on film editing and post-production technical support.
I’m focused on building my career as an editor while contributing across post-production.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
The most is defiantly people in my industry, The directors, other editors, and my working mentors taught me the most. Because we speak the same professional language, By observing how they work, collaborating closely, and learning through daily conversations, I developed a stronger approach to both creative and technical challenges.

At the same time, I’ve also learned a lot from people outside my industry. I have several friends in the medical field, and they are some of the most focused and disciplined people I’ve ever met. Seeing how seriously they approach their work has effect how I think about responsibility, preparation, and long-term commitment.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There were moments when projects were paused or canceled, or when something unexpectedly challenging happened. In those moments, I would briefly feel like giving up, but I allow them happen, it’s like a natural self-protection instinct. But that feeling never lasted long. Hiding doesn’t change anything, and I always remind myself to pick myself up and keep going.
“Pull yourself together” is actually one of my favorite phrases. I think I first heard it in Harry Potter, when Professor McGonagall says it to Ron. That mindset helps me move forward and stay focused on the work.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m committed to building a long-term career as a film editor. It’s a slow and demanding path, but I enjoy learning through the process and working closely with others to tell stories. A friend once told me that we are lucky to do this job, it allows us to experience different people’s stories and always can meet something new. For that reason, no matter how long it takes, I’m committed to growing and staying present in the work.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If immortality were real, what would you build?
If immortality were real, I would stay with my editing work and slow the pace down. It’s not the work itself that feels rushed, but society and daily life.
