Enrico Targetti shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Enrico, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
I recently rediscovered hobbies that used to soak up so much of my time when I was very young. And I pleasantly discovered that they are still able to make me forget about the passing of time. Building an painting silly plastic miniatures is my latest rediscover
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My official title is “Virtual Cinematographer”. I am a director of photography for animated films and TV shows. I work with the director and the rest of the team to establish the look and feel of a project by handling camera movement/placement and lighting. The interesting twist on the job is that we use technology previously employed by video games to workshop and render the movies. A process that used to take hours and hours to be able to look at an image now can be done in an instant, making iteration and collaboration way more agile and more akin to traditional live action cinematography
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
The moment, in my early twenties, when I walked on a movie set that my friends and I built ourselves. It wasn’t much to look at, just a simple green screen inside an old warehouse, but to me it represented the idea that a world bigger than our lives was within reach
When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
It might sound cheesy, but it’s true: my family. My mom, dad and sister always made me feel like they had my back no matter what. There is something about unconditional love that makes you over come (almost) everything. The idea that you have a safe haven no matter what happens is such a privilege to have which I don’t take for granted
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely not. We all have countless public versions of ourselves. I’ll tell you what, I believe we also have countless “real” version of ourselves. To believe in ONE true self is to be blissfully unaware of the complexity of the human mind
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
Exercising, probably 🙂
