Story & Lesson Highlights with Munya of Hollywood

We recently had the chance to connect with Munya and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Munya, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is a normal day like for you right now?
Well in the morning I do the usual things – brush my teeth, shower, get dressed, etc. Sometimes before class I go hike in Runyon Canyon with my friends. Then I’ll head to MI to take my classes for the day and after that I usually stay on campus and get a private room and I’ll just practice guitar for a few hours. After that either go out to eat with friends or go home and cook some lunch. Once I’m home and full I usually chill and relax a bit and then I go to the gym for about an hour, hour and a half. After my gym session I shower and then do my homeworks. When the homework is finished I’ll end the day with practicing more or learning new songs for shows I’m playing around LA or just jamming, writing/recording new songs. Before going to sleep I like to play some ps5 or maybe watch a series or a movie if I don’t have to get up early the next morning.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name’s Munya, I’m a rock and blues guitarist. I came to Los Angeles from Slovenia to pursue a degree and a career in music. I’m currently a student at Musicians Institute in Hollywood, expected to graduate in June 2026. When people see me they immediately assume I’m some kind of metalhead or whatever and that’s the furthest from the truth. I don’t really like metal at all, I’m interested in a lot of different music genres and I also record many kinds of music, not just rock! I’m currently working on a few different projects and I’m playing live around LA a lot too!

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
Oh my parents for sure. My mom is a relentless worker, works all the time let me tell you. She’s been working non stop since I was a kid, she hasn’t changed a bit through the years, she works even more now! But she loves what she does and that’s why she works so much, because she just loses herself in her work and doesn’t realise how long she’s been at it until I come and interrupt her (sorry mom). I think she’ll never retire, she loves it too much, she sees herself too much in that roll to ever stop. And then we have my dad, who works with his hands all the time. Not because he has to, because that’s what he enjoys most! Making new stuff out of wood, restoring old furniture, restoring old motorbikes, gardening, growing his own vegetables, the list goes on and on! So yeah they are both very hard working people and for sure they taught me most about work and discipline.

Is there something you miss that no one else knows about?
The summer breaks when I was still in high school… Wild times!

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
That being constantly nice to people and always being available to them and doing things for them will get you somewhere in life and that they’ll give the same back to you. They’ll just use you and then drop you and move on like nothing ever happened. The only person you can 100% trust is yourself, you need to have your own back, no one else will cover it. People are selfish creatures, for me that’s the harsh reality.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
There’s two things. I regret that I never got the chance to see Eddie Van Halen play live and I’ll regret never going to space and exploring it. I know I can’t really influence that, but it would have been so awesome to be able to just go and travel through space, visit different galaxies, different planets, seeing all the celestial bodies and everything the space has to offer.
