We recently had the chance to connect with Phil Hawkins and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Phil, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
I tend to lean towards integrity as a starting point because energy radiates off our core values, And when we are self aware of that, our vibrations will emit intelligence.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Im an LA based multidisciplinary contemporary artist working primarily with geometry themed sculptures and wall reliefs. I also have a jewelry line styled similar to my sculptures. My choice of materials range from cardboard, pvc, cast bronze and precious metals.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I feel that money breaks bonds between people when it’s prioritized over relationships. Bonds can be restored when we understand the significance of prioritizing the relationship first. We cant take money or anything physical with us in the afterlife, we only take our memories of love and the bonds we created in life.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Life is always full of ups and downs, in the successful moments of my career I always felt a sense of validation for all the hard work and persistence. But when the low points and suffering occur, that is truly where you learn what you are made of. A choice between growing or giving up will test your desire for success.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
As a person of integrity and authenticity, I like to think so. I have found that genuinely being myself has been more rewarding and logical than trying to keep up false personas or being a people pleaser.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m alone creating art in my studio, no noise, no outside distractions, just me with my art and inner thoughts.
