Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Morgan Benoit of Los Angeles

Morgan Benoit shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Morgan, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Volunteering with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA) program. And spending time with my pet cat, friends and family.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a stuntman, and actor. I got my start in the industry with Jackie Chan on a film called the Forbidden Kingdom where I had a supporting role. I’m originally from Burlington, Vermont, but lived in China for over 10 years, from 1998 to 2010, where I trained martial arts at the Beijing University of Physical Education and Shi Cha Hai Sports School.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with my grandfather shaped how I see myself and how I treat others. He was southern Italian, fought in WW2 and was a fireman. He taught me what it means to show respect and be respected. To help others. He taught me about kindness, chivalry and responsibility.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
It’s you against you. That’s what it really comes down to in this life. You have to conquer your demons, whatever they may be, and use that pain and suffering to move forward. I believe that life is constant evolution, I don’t want to be stagnant, I want to always keep improving and most importantly learning.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
Marcus Aurelius, and Confucius.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
When I’m creating, and inspired. That’s why I love my job so much. There’s room to explore, and create and learn.
