Max Beasley shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Max, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Wake up, walk to some coffee, sit down and write and apply to gigs. Then hopefully I get everything done and can head to a show in the evening, or a movie screening, or both if I’m lucky. Then back at it again tomorrow. Hopefully I’m working in there somewhere, for money.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a writer, comedian, and filmmaker based in LA. I’m currently writing my first novel. I am inspired by anybody who wants to pursue creating art. Art creates feeling and connection and that’s a beautiful thing.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that has served its purpose and now needs to be released is putting others before myself. I now know I need to center myself and my own needs first, because no one else will. Oxygen mask on yourself before, others, etc. That doesn’t mean I can’t still care about and help others! I just don’t need to at my own detriment anymore.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I’ve almost given up many times. What helped me is finding the thing I was best at, and doing that every day. The thing that made my heart sing. For me that was writing. I would say if you feel stuck or feel like quitting, don’t be afraid to pivot, or think about what you wanted to do or liked doing as a kid. Do that.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
Smart people think a lot of things matter. All I really think matters is listening and understanding. Connection instead of dissection. Or division.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
If I didn’t have a name, role, or any possessions, I would still be my rainbow soul self. Just like everyone else is when you break away the chocolate turtle shell that’s hardened around us since birth. We’re all cosmic at the end of the day. Power and money and status and name don’t matter outside of our invention.
