Melissa Stone shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Melissa , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
While intelligence and energy matter, integrity is the trait that ultimately carries the most weight. It is also the quality I look for most in others. Integrity has many dimensions: honesty, consistency, and the discipline to hold yourself to a standard that is evident in every action. It is dignity in the face of disagreement, respect for difference, and, above all, the willingness to listen to and be guided by your moral compass.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a writer and actress currently working on my first novel.
I began acting at the age of twelve in musical theater, an experience that led naturally to film as I grew older. Most notably, I appeared in The Great Buck Howard, opposite John Malkovich and Tom Hanks.
After graduating from Mount Holyoke College, I spent several years on Wall Street before returning to my roots in Los Angeles, California.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with my father was instrumental in shaping who I am today. We were very close, and that bond gave me the courage to truly pursue my dreams. Having a steady, affirming presence like that during your formative years can make all the difference.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me that I am stronger than I once believed. In looking back at the highs and lows of life, it is those pivotal moments of challenge and resilience that most profoundly shape who we become.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I am deeply committed to my career as a writer. While the path is often arduous, it is one I will continue to pursue, regardless of any perceived obstacles.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
I would regret not pursuing my dreams. At the end of the day, fulfillment matters more to me than certainty or comfort. I want to look back on my life knowing that I honored my ambitions, took meaningful risks, and chose courage over hesitation. Whether I succeed or fail is less important than the knowledge that I showed up for myself and followed the path that felt true. That, to me, is what lasting satisfaction looks like.
