DIZZIE on Life, Lessons & Legacy

DIZZIE shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi DIZZIE, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: Have you ever been glad you didn’t act fast?
Actually, I stepped away from the underground rave scene for about six months. However, for I was away for so long, I took the last couple months of my absence to carefully analyze everything. I was observing what’s trending and what’s not, who to contact if I need to contact, what’s popular, what’s not popular, and etc. I took my time to analyze everything so when I came back, I was ready to go in stronger than ever and that’s what happened!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is DIZZIE, and I’m a techno and house artist. I just recently got into producing and I’m still learning much more from it as I play with Ableton and FL studio. I’ve always had love for music and learning about the different genres that comes with it. When I learn a new genre, I feel like I struck gold every time, for it’s something new to listen too. I decided to make my move to become a DJ, for I realized this is something I love doing and can see myself being great at it. I started off with a tablet from some DJ app on it and I progressed by working my way up learning different controllers from a DDJSB3 to CDJ 3000s and different mixers. My broad variety of music has certainly took me a long way in the last few years since now I’m fluent in many music genres.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
I’ve had a wide variety of mentors to teach me about the music business and music side of things. But there was one specific mentor I’ve had, who showed me how to pick and choose the events I should play for, how to go about communicating business, understanding and agreeing with contracts, and etc. He also gave me some tips on how to crowd read, know what to play in what locations, choosing who I should follow as an influence, and how to lead by an example.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The one thing that I fear the most is failing at what I love. It’s either I fail or succeed. The thought of failing before I attempt something new has held me back from trying out new things. For example, I wanted to rap, but I was so afraid of failing at it I didn’t even attempt it. However, growing up, I learned that giving up before trying is also failing. So, this thought now has helped me to accomplish anything I decided to try new and eventually overcame this fear.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say family, friendships, and music is what really matters to me. Friendships because they know that I cherish our bond and would do anything to help and protect them. They also know that meeting new people and traveling with them or even hanging out together has always been something I cherish and feel excited for. Secondly, music has pulled me out of so many different situations by helping me stay level headed and guiding me down the right path. When I was away for those six months, one of the only things that I kept close to me was music to help me view things clearly. Lastly, they would say my family is the most important thing to me. I know I’m mentioning this last, but I wanted to take the time to express how I feel about family…. I always have to stay up-to-date about my family, I always have to know what’s going on with my family, and I always have to worry about the well-being and safety of my family no matter if it’s in my household or if it’s outside of my home. My family are the ones who support me and push me to be a great DJ. If it wasn’t for my family and friends, I wouldn’t had made this far as an artist for music.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
Anytime I’m listening to music, I feel really more at peace. Usually the music I play goes based off of my moods, so if I’m feeling down or upset, I’ll play something more upbeat to uplift me. Music has always been therapeutic for me, and also a guidance.
