We’re looking forward to introducing you to Emmillienne Bellaire. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Emmillienne, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Right now, I am being called to go back to school, specifically for journalism. It may not seem like a scary thing to do for most, but being 28, having graduated high school 10 years ago, and college 8 years ago, it can feel like a bit of a step back. Typically when I discuss this with others, the most common question I get asked is, “Oh for your masters?” which I shamefully reply with “No, bachelors.” I applied to USC Annenberg in 2023 to enter fall 2024. By March 2024, I began my work at CAA (Creative Artists Agency), after not having a job for 4 years. By May, I received my acceptance to USC. I couldn’t believe it! But then came the dilemma. Do I go to USC and quit my job at my dream agency? Or do I pass up on USC and stick to the path I’m already on? Spoiler alert, I chose the latter. But something kept gnawing on me for the next year. I knew I made the right decision, but it felt like God wasn’t done with me when it came to school. So, I swallowed my pride and applied again this year. In the meantime, I’ve had the opportunity to practice reporting by interviewing agents, sitting in on Q&A’s, and gathering as much information and experience while I’m employed at the hub of all things entertainment. I wouldn’t trade my experience here at CAA for anything, but I’m excited for what’s next.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey! I’m Emmillienne Bellaire and before you ask, yes. That’s my birth name. Not a stage name. I’m sure you’re wondering how to even pronounce it, so before you butcher it, here you go. “eee-mil-eee-ehn” Kinda like “A million dollars” but with an E. Now that that’s out the way, let’s get to the fun stuff! If I were to describe all that I do, we’d be here all day. If you want to know the full extent, we can grab lunch sometime. But for now, let’s start with Singer-Songwriter. Whether I’m producing a beat, strumming on a guitar, plucking away at my piano, or blasting music in my car, I am always surrounding myself with music. This past year, I created a band called MDNGHT SUMMRS, and for 6 months, I wrote, recorded, mixed, mastered, and released one single a week. It was by far the most stressful, insane journey I decided to embark on. I’d probably never do it again, but it was definitely a great learning experience. During that time, I had the opportunity to perform live at iconic venues like The Viper room, The mint, and Hotel Cafe. I even got a chance to perform at CAA’s Young Hollywood party at The Avalon in Hollywood. That was by far the coolest performance opportunity I’ve ever had as a solo artist. Right now, I’m sitting with God, waiting to see how He wants to direct my next steps, all while being content with what He’s done and where I am now.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I would say the first time I felt truly powerful was when I placed 8th nationally in Folkstyle Wrestling my Sophomore year of high school. My body was at its strongest and wrestling gave me a way to channel any frustrations I had built up in my childhood. It also gave me a sense of control. When I received my medal, it validated the fact that I truly can do ANYTHING I put my mind to.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Dear Millie, you are extraordinary. The things you’ve experienced have been more than most can handle and yet, here you are. You are resilient and God has created you to be here on purpose. I know it’s hard right now, but I promise it gets better on the other side. You continuously build your own kind of family everywhere you go and you’re never truly alone. Gods goodness and mercy will follow you all the days of your life. Remember that.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends know that more than anything, God is the single most important person in my life. And I don’t mean just any “god”. I mean the one and only true God. The father, the son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit. I must clarify because a lot of people throw the word “god” around a lot. Especially within the entertainment industry, where artists will go on stage and thank “god” for a song that so clearly does not honor him, I want to be clear and true about whom I speak of. Everything I do comes from Him. The main lesson I’ve learned in the season I’m in is to allow my walk to be different. I realized God created us so complex and different from each other, that there’s no way for us all to have the exact same type of relationship with Him. He’s our father. I think we can all agree that no child has the exact same relationship with a parent as their sibling does. So I let go everyones expectations on how it’s supposed to look and allow my relationship to unfold how He wants it to. Just us two.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
I feel the most at peace when I’ve been consistent in expressing gratitude. I look around and see the friends I have, the coworkers I can count on, the health of my family, and realize that one day it may not look like this anymore. So I bask in it. I’ve learned to enjoy life for what it is right now. I sit with God and say, “Thank you”. Only then am I able to relax, content in His peace.
