An Inspired Chat with Heather Wicks

Heather Wicks shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Heather, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I live my life by nature; the original way of life. And although I do talk about it a bit, I would like to talk about it more. Nature is the best medicine (at least for my family and so many others). I believe everyone has the choice to educate themselves about this and to do whatever they feel is best for themselves. But for me and the people I choose to surround myself with, most of turn to nature first and I really value that.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a trailblazing entrepreneur and influencer with decades of experience in the fashion, wellness, social media, and marketing industries. My emphasis on healthy living can be seen by my partnership and collaboration choices which include like-minded, ethical, and all-natural brands. My properties in Topanga and Morongo Valley serve as the backdrop for many events and photoshoots.

Founder of the wildly successful marketing agency, The Westside Collective, I helped brands level up for over 9 years and became a trusted resource for brand marketing and marketing referrals.

Today, I am the owner Beer Burros & Brands; rescue burros attending events and weddings and Lupasamama; offering mushroom and horse medicine ceremonies. I am also Reiki certified and am an owner at Sacred Woman Collective Hi Desert Branch where I host women’s circles and retreats.

As an influencer, I has collaborated with leading lifestyle brands such as Philosophie, Lorna Murray, Ranch Road Boots, Sezane, Wildling Beauty, Seatopia and many others. I am well-respected for my aesthetically beautiful content creation and I have a knack for capturing dynamic images.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
When I was a child I lived in a small town in Connecticut. I felt like I lived in a box where you could only be a doctor, lawyer or restaurant worker when you grew up. I didn’t know you could be anything you wanted to be and that you could even make up your job and to live your passions. Until later in life when I came to California.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes. When I was living in Florida and got sick of working in retail; I started working odd office jobs through a temp agency. I was lost. That was in 2006 when I was 26.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
I really believe that you must live your passions. That is what we came here to do. So although someone might be totally passionate about being a doctor or a lawyer or something of that sort; I wonder… is that really their passion? Or do they do it for the money first? Then they can of course have the money do to their passions but is it wholly what embodies them? I know there are trade offs for everything but just a thought. What would you be doing that would make you feel so whole if money wasn’t a thing?

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I actually thought about this last night… Get off the screens and get outside with my kids all the time. And if it’s too hot here in the desert go somewhere pleasant in nature.
