Story & Lesson Highlights with Matt Drago of Los Angeles County

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Matt Drago. Check out our conversation below.

Matt, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
It has, and always will be acting. It’s been the first love of my life that allows me to feel the most human, especially when collaborating with like souls.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Matt Drago —a working actor and a real estate professional based in Southern California. My career has always centered around storytelling and connection, whether that’s on screen or through helping people navigate one of the biggest chapters of their lives: finding the right home or moving on to the next one.

What makes my work unique is the blend of both worlds. Acting has taught me how to listen deeply, read the nuances of what people really need, and show up with presence and authenticity. Real estate allows me to put that into action in a very real and tangible way. I love getting to know people, understanding what matters to them, and helping them make choices that feel aligned, grounded, and confident.

Right now, I’m focused on growing my business in a way that’s relationship-driven rather than transactional. I work with clients who value honesty, clarity, and a human approach—no pressure, no ego, just guidance and support. And in my acting work, I’m always exploring stories that resonate emotionally and reflect real life.

Whether I’m on set or with a client, I try to bring the same energy: grounded, thoughtful, and genuinely invested in the experience. My goal is to continue growing in both fields—each one informs the other, and that’s a dynamic I really love.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
My incredible & beautiful, Grandma Matilda, who worked in our family business, Drago Shoe Repair well into her 90s.

She gave me one of the most special gifts of my life in welcoming me into her home on 79th & Broadway so I could work hard, focus on my craft as an artist, and feel safe & cared for at the same time.

The fact that she would be getting up at 4am everyday to go to work was something I always admired in her because it was her way of staying active.

She is the epitome of what it means to be family, and how to bring your best efforts into whatever you do in life.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of not being perfect significantly limited my growth. I often held myself back from taking action because I was paralyzed by the idea that my efforts needed to be flawless from the outset. However, I’ve learned that consistent effort and dedication are often more valuable than striving for unattainable perfection. Sometimes, just showing up and putting in the work is enough to make a real difference. This realization has allowed me to embrace a more realistic and productive approach to challenges, focusing on progress over perfection.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My friends are my family, and they have stood by me in my life through the lowest of the lows. I believe they would be proud of my resilience and ability to keep my dream alive despite the obstacles life throws at you. It is this unwavering support and belief in me that fuels my determination to succeed. They value my persistence, empathy, and the joy I bring to their lives, and I strive to embody these qualities in all that I do.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I brought stories & characters into the world that met the moment. As life reflects art reflects life, I always strive to be a part of stories that I feel can make a lasting impact on society. I want to be remembered as someone who used their platform to tell important stories, explore complex themes, and contribute to a more understanding and empathetic world. My hope is that the characters and narratives I helped bring to life continue to resonate with audiences long after I’m gone, sparking conversations and inspiring positive change.
