We’re looking forward to introducing you to Sonia Grace . Check out our conversation below.
Hi Sonia, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Crotchet looming: A modern way to make blankets, hats, bags and sweaters for the people you love.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Rooted in Africa. Resonating Worldwide.
Sonia Grace is a genre-blending powerhouse redefining the global sound of Afrobeat, pop, and hip hop. Born in Kenya and based in the U.S., she’s a bold voice for cultural pride and fearless creativity. A multilingual artist—fluent in English, Swahili, and Kikuyu—Sonia brings stories to life through rhythm, lyricism, and authenticity.
An accomplished singer, rapper, songwriter, and producer, Sonia fuses modern beats with the soul of her heritage. Her mastery of the Njembe drum adds a percussive pulse that makes every performance unforgettable.
Her track “MamaLand” earned her a finalist spot in the Coffee Music Planet Earth competition, and her collaborative anthem “Unapologetically” won a prestigious Anthem Award—recognizing her role in creating music that inspires, challenges, and uplifts.
Whether on stage, in the studio, or behind the boards, Sonia Grace is building a movement—unapologetically African, relentlessly creative, and undeniably global.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Watching South African singer Brenda Fassie perform for Former president Nelson Mandela. She exuded confidence, power, grace, and humor when she fed him a banana.
That moment inspired me to become a performer who not only is successful but breaks barriers and reshapes the world.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
When I decided that pain would no longer control my destiny. I processed and owned it and now I can creat art that inspires other people and makes feel seen.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
How easy it is to fall for misinformation. The volume and speed at which it spreads, the depth of its deception and the unconscious bias it comes with can sometimes make it harder to see the truth. Misinformation targeting smart people rely on the hubris that smart people can’t be conned—so even when they are conned, they refuse to admit it, hence holding on to misinformation.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If immortality were real, what would you build?
If immortality was real, I would not take it. Knowing you have limited time makes you take advantage and cherish every moment. If you have all the time in the world, you’d never do anything because you literally have all the time in the world.
