We’re looking forward to introducing you to Rapha Bola. Check out our conversation below.
Rapha , we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
On a typical day when I’m not working, I wake up, make my son breakfast, get him ready for daycare or school, and drop him off. Right after that, I usually have my meetings, then head to the gym. Later, I cook dinner and pick up my son from school. In the evenings, we might go hiking or play soccer, and when my wife gets home we all eat dinner together.
Lately, I’ve been trying a new routine — starting my mornings by reading scripture to strengthen my connection with God before moving into my regular activities.
When I’m working, my days are simpler but more intense: I wake up, review my materials for the day, and head straight to set until I’m finished.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Rapha Bola. I was born in the Congo and moved to the U.S. when I was a kid. I’ve been lucky enough to build a career in the film industry as a cinematographer, which has opened doors for me to travel, meet incredible people, and see the world in a whole new way.
It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been worth it. I’m proud to be part of Local 600 and just recently signed with the Abel Agency — huge thanks to them for believing in me.
Over the years I’ve worked on some amazing projects that have pushed me to grow and expand my perspective. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that if you can dream it, you can make it happen.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
The biggest moment that shaped how I see the world was the birth of my son. Watching this sweet, innocent life enter the world truly motivated me to set aside my pride and become the kind of role model he deserves. I want him to grow up to be better than me, but most importantly, I want him to follow the teachings of the Savior.
That’s why I began shaping my life and values around the teachings of Jesus Christ. I’m far from perfect, but I’m trying — because if my son can see me striving to live by those principles, he can apply them too. I believe real change starts with me, and only then can the impact on his life be truly meaningful.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I think about giving up almost every day, but I keep telling myself, “I’ll push through today and try again tomorrow.” When tomorrow comes, I tell myself the same thing — and somehow, that keeps me going. It helps me stay strong in the moment, because I know someone out there has it worse than I do.
That perspective allows me to be more grateful for the blessings I have and the lessons I’m learning, even when I don’t like or appreciate them in the moment. Above all, I’m thankful to God for being patient with me as I grow.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
I believe that Jesus Christ is as real as you and me — to whoever is reading this. For a long time, I thought I had a personal relationship with Him, but I’ve come to realize it’s something deeper than I understood before. I can’t prove anything to anyone; I can only share my thoughts and testimony. I know He lives, and I know that when we seek Him flaws and all — He embraces our imperfections with grace.
I also believe that every good work will be rewarded in due time. So keep pushing forward as much as you can, and give the rest to God. I’ve been learning to let go of worry, because I’ve realized it doesn’t serve me.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people can say I lived a life of service. But honestly, what matters most to me is what my Maker will say about me. Did I do a good job? I guess I’ll find out when I’m on the other side, haha.
