An Inspired Chat with Kevin Angel of South Central Los Angeles

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kevin Angel. Check out our conversation below.

Kevin, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Outside of work, the one thing that truly brings me joy is just existing with my wife. Yes, I recently got married on November 2, 2024 and its been the best decision I have made. We got married in vegas at the KISS wedding chapel and dressed up as Joker and Harley Quinn. There’s definitely video of our wedding… its hilarious and magical at the sametime. We’ve been travelling as much as we can and vlogging.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Kevin Angel, born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. son of immigrants from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. I am a musician and artist based in South Central Los Angeles. The bands I am in are, “The Lords Of Sin” and “Faith No Gwar”, I am the singer and guitarist in The Lords Of Sin, and I am the guitarist and backup vocals in Faith No Gwar. I also worked on music videos for bands including Ministry, Jinjer, Suicide Silence, Cradle Of Filth, DevilDriver, Wednesday 13, Black Veil Brides, Verona On Venus, Kat Von D., Chloe Trujillo, Filter, Sons Of Apollo, Misfits, Wargasm, Richie Kotzen, Tetrarch, Vixen, Tim Skold, Behemoth(Live), 3Teeth (Revolver 2019 music video of the year), plus more.

The Lords Of Sin is a band formed by myself, on vocals and guitar, and my brother, Bryan Angel who is the drummer, followed later by Kevin Aguilar on lead guitar, and Michael Sanchez on bass. The Lords of Sin is a raw, unapologetic thrash metal band straight outta South Central LA. Our highly anticipated full length album “Nine Levels Of Hell” is now available on all streaming platforms. We bring heavy riffs, aggressive vocals, and real stories to our songs. Inspired by the legends — we’re here to thrash, burn, and leave a scar. Strongly influenced by occult imagery and dark art, we represent rebellion into an overly dramatic structured environment, we are the anti-conformist, the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse, THE LORDS OF SIN.

Faith No Gwar aka FNG is the electrifying new GWAR and Faith No More cover band founded by my good friend Piggy D. (ex-Rob Zombie/Marilyn Manson). In this band I play a clown named “Jekyll” who plays guitar and back up vocals. FNG consists of the Compton-based thrash band The Lords Of Sin as well as Matt “Piggy D.” Montgomery reprising his “Giggles The Clown” persona on lead vocals. Montgomery is known for his work with Rob Zombie, Wednesday 13, Amen, Alice Cooper, and most recently Marilyn Manson. FNG is a chaotic fusion of grease, rage, and absurdity, a band of disgruntled clown car mechanics who channel their working-class frustrations through blistering covers and twisted reinterpretations of Faith No More and GWAR anthems. Clad in oil-stained overalls and smeared clown paint, they transform shop-floor grievances into cathartic, theatrical performances, welding satire and aggression into every riff. Their sound is a manic collision of metal, punk, and unhinged circus energy—an explosive middle finger to the soul-crushing grind of modern labor. When the engine won’t start, the boss won’t pay, and the world feels like a rigged joke, FNG turns it into a war cry.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
The earliest memory that I could think of that makes me feel “powerful” is when a good metal song was playing loud. As a kid, I think I was like 5 or 7 years old, and I would feel the sudden urge to conquer the highest mountain. I remember as a kid visiting my grandparents house in Tijuana and my dad and uncles would blast Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Van Halen, and many more, I found myself running up the big pile of rocks in the backyard holding a long wooden stick above my head, high in the air and screaming, YEEAAAHH!! lol, yeah, that’s the earliest “powerful” memory I have.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely! Being a creative isn’t easy, there are constant challenges every time, it comes with the territory. Dealing with life’s unexpected challenges can really dampen your mind and motivation. I think of the times I almost DID give up, and how those times always made me better after I got passed it, because I didn’t give up. The obstacles I have faced have been many but I consider them a learning experience now, at the time I didn’t see it that way. I love doing what I do and I don’t see myself ever giving up. If you’re passionate about something don’t ever give up.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Hell yes absolutely real! I can’t be fake. Unless im playing a character and im IN character, yes, i’m going to be the real me 100% I can’t be a poser.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
great question….. maybe most people will misunderstand the fact that everything Ive done has taken a lot of work behind the scenes, countless hours of hard work, hardly no sleep and a lot of sacrifice, no luck involved.. Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.
